What look are you aiming for? I have a traditional bedroom with charcoal bedhead, dark almost black real wood bedsides and clear sealed hard wood floors. Search dark grey or charcoal bedhead in the photos here on Houzz. There are a good number of looks to inspire.

your niche would look ok with just a couple of books and an ornament but depends on how the room will be used...used occasionally by guests would be good for some light reading (magazines?) covered water bottle and drinking glass, small tray for torch, overnight medicines, spectacles and/or jewellery, box of tissues, radio, reading light and a small vase of flowers

I would also hang the art over the centre of the bed as it's the strongest feature of the room. A bedhead can be mounted to the wall, freestanding or clipped to the base of the bed... it all depends on the style of bedhead and where you get it from.
