With the beautiful brown brickwork you need paint colors in more earthy tones. Cool greys and blues may clash. If you are in a hot coastal climate and want to keep the white make sure it is a warm white. A good field color could be the tan in the walk way brick. Mossy greens and dull golds could also work. Test color schemes with good old Crayola sketches to see if you like dark trim and a light field color or vice versa. Consider a bright pop of color for the door if the rest is very neutral creams and tans. Add lattice and screen to the sides of the foundation to keep critters out. Add shrubs and flowers. You need a tree or two. The porch begs for a swing or rocker.

Hi sunnyshama25. I recommend dark walls (matte finish) for your dedicated theatre room. The reason is so light doesn't bounce around the walls; you will enjoy a better theatre experience. My family's previous home's theatre room had three white walls and only one dark wall. We regretted not painting all walls dark. We did have heavy drapes and pelmets for the large windows in the room to reduce light as much as possible. The floor was thickly carpeted in a dark colour (for acoustics and to reduce light reflection). In designing our current home's theatre room, we applied our experience and painted all walls Resene dark plum, matte finish. The heavy dark drapes are the exact colour as the walls (dark plum). I had a lemon and lime bathroom in our first house. It was a lovely combination in a south-facing, somewhat dark bathroom...until I fell pregnant. Then I started to associate the colour combination with the nausea of morning sickness. Even after our eldest child was born, I still felt nauseated walking into the bathroom every morning!

FINALLY after too long, have completed one of the upper cedar wall replacements (& the most needed)... still debating colours. Altho I was set on the cedarshield natural cedar oil product, everyone is pushing paint due to longevity... because we missmatched old with new boards on verandah section, don’t think cedarshield would bring out same colour evenly unless a lot of time trying to ‘clean’ the old boards top layer. SO, back to colours. Thoughts? Light and beachy/modern is attractive but don’t think it’d suit the simple timber cottage look it has had for so long. Thinking dark trim with lighter weatherboards?
