Bathroom update
Comments (6)georgi has some very good ideas and is on the ball in regards to if you want to keep it to a low budget but you have stated that you want a complete change but the toilet has to stay where it is. So i am going forward with the complete change, modern look without being extravagant. I would remove all tiles, vanity, pictures, hand rails, toilet and curtains. I would get rid of the shower and put a new one over the bath tub. This will free up space and make the bath area dual purpose. Bigger bathroom already! I would then remove the current porcelain tub and make it into a planter outside or sell it. Extend the bathtub walls higher to about 50cm and out to where the brick work butts the current vanity's position. Also extend slightly the bath wall nearest the toilet so you can install glass near the window. You will end up with a slightly bigger bath area. georgi has the right idea with the tiles placement. My preference although you can change it would be to get a light slate or sandstone coloured tiles. Either go all white tiles for floor and walls or mix it like sandstone colour on the floor with white on the walls. Tile either up to 2m up the wall or to the ceiling if you have a bit of extra cash for a clean stylish look. Tile the bath tub walls too so you end up with something similar to a roman bath with shower. The shower head should be of enough distance away that water splashes are minimal on the window sill. Now install a frame less glass partition between the toilet and the wall near the current vanity. Install a new toilet - white modern look with a fuller body than the one you currently have. Now for the new vanity.... These are just ideas and are ones with a tub installed. The roman styled gives you more room if you want to have a bath and is not as slippery when getting in or out. Also toddlers can hold the side and stand up without slipping over and hurting themselves. Cleaning is not a issue if normal maintenance like wiping down glass and tile after every shower/bath. I have taken the wiping down routine for the last 10 years. I only had to clean the grout once every 3 to 4 years and it doesnt stain heavily. Lighting i like the ideas of georgi. The mirrors can also double as storage cabinets....See Moreupdate an 80's cedar/ brick kitchen but expanse of tiled floor to stay
Comments (23)Hi everyone, You may remember my posting Design Dilemma back inJune/July 2017? Thanks for all your amazing suggestions and ideas. Many of our grand plans were just beyond our budget. We had considered so many professional recommendations, -removing load bearing walls, -installing larger windows. -Restoration of the copper rangehood ...a total rebuild as copper was on the front surface only with limited space contained within structure for ducting and fans. Time to rethink ! -Remove the tiled floor?...the tiles covered an extensive area with underfloor heating so jack hammering would have been our only option. Another rethink! -Skylights ? Not an option and we already had solartube type skylights installed in a very steep roof. No other choices available. Paint over internal cedar and brick walls? We were left totally confused!! Enter kitchen consultant number 4! A fresh look and approach to solving our dingy outdated kitchen, yet keep with integrity of our cedar lined and brick interior. All renovations now completed. We are really happy with the outcome. Before......See More80s facade update ideas please!
Comments (46)Jessica Craig, I thought you might like to know this. When my daughter was a baby and I took her for swimming lessons, I met another wonderful Mum Wendy and her daughter, Sophie. Sophie's father had recently passed away and so Wendy was trying to adjust to the hand that fate had dealt her. They had not long purchased their house too. We have remained very close all these years and I can report that both Soph and Wendy are a force to be reckoned with. Sophie (now 15) is a talented singer, is doing well at school and has oodles of personality. Wendy is studying online and working towards fulfilling her dream of one day writing a children's book. The house has been renovated and is a very warm and welcoming home. It has not always been an easy road as single mum for Wendy, but it continues to get richer as the years move by. I hope that in some of your harder moments, this may bring some small level of comfort to you....See MoreHelp! 80s bathroom in need of some budget updating ideas
Comments (25)If this is just a budget improvement then I would try to fix the cracked tiles and missing grout, paint the window frame white and add white shutters on the window, paint the vanity white (although I don't like doing that either) and get new handles and taps, toilet roll holder etc., install a lovely white potted plant, as shown above and white fluffy towels. A new white frame on the mirror or replace it with a slightly smaller white framed one. Then I would save up for a white stone bench top or stone overlay bench top and the cream will go nicely with all of it. Unfortunately your shower seems to be the most dated part. If you try to change the door you may find that you have missing tiles, although new floor tiles in the shower would probably look OK and add a glass hinged door. Good luck....See More- 10 years ago
