Kerb Appeal Needed!
Comments (6)Without being sure of what those windows are from, it might be worth considering creating a flat roof/ deck on that single garage and replacing the first window with a sliding door to access it. Continue he same balustrade as your fence with have and create a terrace. Slatted balustrade might provide the privacy in screening, and a nice place to stand out at evenings. I think a colourbond roof would modernize this home in the right way, it's low pitch is suited to doing so. As for the windows, I personally like timber awning windows for this style home. Although I think a louvre window would look amazing where that long narrow window is, and if it happens to be within your stairwell, it would create a fantastic breezeway and vacuum the hot air upwards and outwards. The main structure of your garage, I would create post and beams that jut out over the entrance path not a covered roof, just the beams, which would be the joists from the garage roof/ deck. This would tie into the architecture and soften the boxiness of the exterior facade. Also it will direct you through an interesting entrance and lighting and landscape details could really wow you....See MoreAdvice for our new homes curb appeal
Comments (18)It all depends on how you want to use your front yard. I live on a corner block and in an old suburb in Canberra, where hedges are everywhere and for good reason, Privacy! You're front yard is a little more magical too when you aren't exposed to the street. I definitely would plant a tree in the corner so in time it overhangs and softens the driveway but please research the tree first or it could be a disaster. If you're not into hedges then garden beds at the front and around the corner, edging is a must, maybe a sculpture or garden feature not small but more of a statement piece. As already suggested, have a look at pictures on Houzz I'm sure you'll fall in love with something that suits you're lifestyle, and don't forget to add some soft garden lighting, good luck!...See MoreNeed help with curb appeal please?
Comments (8)Hi Aecordts, where is your house? The birches tell me it's not tropical, and the view shot suggests New Zealand. Wellington? Your front garden is "of its time", which isn't 12 years ago but about forty. I'd bring those conifers up to date by adding a couple of good big rocks, some gravel and scads of tall grasses and bright perennials. The whole thing needs loosening up. The only thing I'd lose completely are those lollypops under your front windows. They look twee. Go for some roses, not hybrid teas but rugosas or Portlands, or maybe one of the more solid and shrubby David Austins. The important thing is that the foliage comes all the way down to the ground. Alternatively, fill it in with black (and I MEAN black!) phormium cultivars. The columns are fine as they are....See More60/70’s house lacking kerb appeal!
Comments (10)I beg to differ from Melwood Cabanas - rendering your home will look nothing like their photo as you don't have the classic Georgian proportions and windows. Render doesn't improve the design and propotions into a classic look, in fact it often does the reverse, and puts an emphasis on things that aren't quite right with a design, due to the loss of texture and visual interest. If the house is big enough to have a bathroom for bedroom 7 then I would be looking to sacrifice that bathroom (on the assumption that you probably have five or six other bathrooms), to improve the appeal of the front elevation. Engage a design professional to redesign the front of the home to be in sympathy with the existing architecture and proportions, and don't try and modernise it for a compromised result. It already has a charm that has been diluted by unsympathetic styling. Just cause somebody has painted the ground floor pink, added topiary and classic timber seating doesn't make it look Tuscan.
