Google roofscapes images and you'll get the idea : ) And if you're not bothered by the roof next door then I'm not bothered by the roof next door! I'm sad to say though that your metal outside stairs idea will likely not get approval from your local Council. I say that approval is unlikely because that roof next door seems very close, so I imagine the setback of your house (and theirs) is likely as close as Council will let you get. In other words, no building of any structure such as stairs would be allowed in the space that's there now. But never say never...give their planning department a call or submit an enquiry online and just run the plan past them. Maybe instead of stairs you actually mean a Juliet balcony? (google it!) Even that plus the type of window it's attached to is subject to Council approval so again, you would need to contact them. Plants on a Juliet balcony would indeed be very charming but I'm not sure how realistic this option is. So all that being said, I'm still going for my roofscape/cityscape option to better incorporate next door's roof. Roofscapes can include trees too you know!

I selected Neither - Reason. I think that particular room looks great because a huge amount of expense has gone into making that room picture perfect. It is unrealistic to think that the average home buyer / owner will have that kind of money to invest in a room. Generally I would never put wall paper on a ceiling. The only thing that has made this room work is that they have been able to invest a lot of money into making sure this room is "show room" quality by matching the paper and the carpet and all the furnishings. It is not a homely room. It is a room for a palace or for the rich and famous. You could not relax in this room and I do not think the average family would ever allow their family to use this room - most of us do not have "special occasion" rooms.

Hi Belinda, I believe some of the 1940s wallpaper adhesives contained some nasties, including asbestos, so do have this checked before embarking on your project and do use every precaution to keep yourself safe during the process. As bigreader says, most tenants would likely prefer a more neutral look. If it’s for yourself however, you like it and the wallpaper is in good condition, go for it. Modern and trending wallpaper comes in every style, including 1940s style reproductions. It will certainly be a talking point
