Should I update my home to this facade?

Hello,
I have fallen in love with the facade style. We will be renovating our soon to be PPOR and want to know if this style is achievable. I am happy to extend the garage out and the stairs will go inside so we have a bit of internal work to do which will assist in changing the facade so not only cosmetic work. Is it too much work just to achieve a look???

Comments (9)Hi colourgirl3, You have good bones to work with there. I would caution against a dark colour roof - maybe Colorbond Gull grey instead. Often you can get good articulation with dark colours for gutters (charcoal) and lighter colour for fascia boards (Gull grey) and a darker grey for timber posts and features (Dulux 'Asteroid'). Greys will work with your existing face brickwork and window colours. If in doubt go to your local paint centre with a digital pic of the house and see if you can get them to give you some suggestions on their computer program or do it yourself by downloading one from a paint website....See MoreHELP - update the facade of our holiday house
Comments (11)The façade cost will depend upon the materials you pick and site specs (sloping blocks are a bit more challenging) and labour costs ( just make sure that you check your trades licenses, insurances and references for everyone who works on your house) - once you're structurally sound then the rest is straight forward (it's also been my experience with my builders - who are awesome - that they can come up with some amazing ideas that are cost effective and have a real wow factor). If it were me I'd ask around the neighbourhood for builders that can be recommended - they should be able to do it all at the same time and save you some money. On the materials - I'd be tempted to go with natural timber that will weather naturally without needing maintenance - personally I'd lean towards a Japanese technique of charring the timber so that you don't need to do a lot of upkeep - called Shou-sugi-ban - the reason being that the dark colour will tone in with your window frames....See MoreIdeas for updating a 80’s house facade
Comments (4)the two doors are confusing and the glass in the laundry door is darker and makes it more obvious in the photo .. consider a a dramatic new colour for the front door and a small gable roof to create a definite entry porch with extra posts and short entry path with symmetrical planting ...the new gable could be added when you're ready to renew the roof and a light coloured roof with dark trim and a bright new front door eg Colorbond Surfmist with Basalt gutters, eaves and posts with a bright blue door?...See MoreBest way to update the facade of our house.
Comments (16)I look at it differently . Someone has tried to do some updates , so rather than changing the front window or trying to do a 50's homestead look or similar -- go more modern ! I'm not even sure if the roof is unpainted , or painted light boredom ( sorry , I mean grey ) , but redo it in a more modern tone , depending on your climate -- charcoal / monument if cooler , light steel grey / surfmist if warmer . Then do the trim ( gutters , downpipes , etc ) either the same as your roof , or my preference is a highlight colour -- charcoal against surfmist ; or red or yellow to get more attention ( do the front door the same if followin g that suggestion ) . Get rid of the green around the base -- boring people would go mid-grey , I'd go charcoal or similar . The balustrade and the veranda support are just horrid IMO -- go charcoal paint if on a tight budget , but I'd replace -- just a simple , clean style would suit . Doing rendered walls , glass panels , stonework wouldn't . And rip out that front fence -- I hated them when they were pool fences and not seen from the street -- so why put it along the street ? The rest has been 'covered' already -- the bins , the driveway , the lawns , then landscape ! But try and make it look 2000 ( its not going to be 2021 without big $$$ ) , don't aim for 1950 , as that was what was trying to be hidden ....See More- PRO8 years ago

2 years agoLost original account but outside is still a work in progress after completing inside. The change to monument makes a big difference though.
