What a nice space! Agree with bigreader. You could have two big jute rugs (reasonably priced at Ikea) put together under the table as per this past Houzz post. Also, some big plants, wooden bowls and wicker baskets could look great and offer the texture that bigreader mentioned.

Thanks bigreader and cloudpants for your comments. Bigreader, I understand what you mean about the smooth clean-line shiny surfaces, I need to work on the "texture" of the room. And thanks cloudpants for the photos, you are right on track.

Brizcs, In regards to illumination, I have 4 sets of LED down lights (8 lights in total illuminating the room). Each pair is on a different circuit with dimmers so I can turn on/off whichever set I require, but feel a pendant light may help add atmosphere as the down lights are pretty inconspicuous & a tad sterile. The walls are painted Dulux Natural White (which is a pretty safe warm-white).

I would place a different rug (not Jute) under your dining table to define the space.

You could go with cowhide or a neutral colour textured wool rug.

What did you end up deciding for your space?

Your table is so long, you could afford to have a large or repeating table centrepiece.

Is it possible to lift the fiddle leaf fig higher? Even so far as seeing what it looks like on the console table?

You could also consider swapping the placement of the black and white artwork and the mirror in this space to see if they work better in each other’s spot?

If you did this, then moving the fiddleleaf next to the mirror (and hanging it vertical rather than horizontal) might work better for this space.

I have decide to purchase a pendant light from Bisque Traders, removing my ceiling fan (which rarely gets used). I also have an antique sideboard that I may place where the black console table is to warm the space.

LOVE the pendant!

“A room needs three elements: color, texture and shine,” the designer says. I read this this week in a Houzz article. I think your beautiful space lacks colour and texture presently, you have shine.

I have a large room like you, and putting a rug/mat under a table seems to me the silliest advice - food gets dropped/spilt, and being able to mop is important.

I need to feel warm in a space, so my colours always skew into the warm area of the spectrum. Your space makes me feel cold, but that may not be a problem to you.

The wall with mirror could become a gallery wall.

It is a big spave to fill, and I am guessing the fan is important, otherwise why would you have put it in. But can you suspend large rattan lamps on either side of it, low over the table.

Three words -- Too Much White !

Even those blue or green hued pictures don't look integrated to me , but imagine if the chairs were changed to a complimentary colour too ? Or black chairs matching the side table would look more balanced than the white chairs ?

Leave the fan there , but a couple of small cane white-washed pendant lights would look balanced ( one each side of the fan ) -- sure , you already have the LED downlights , but I feel the ceiling needs something .

Or go wilder , not milder -- do the feature wall in burnt red , mid orange or almost any shade of yellow -- THEN the white chairs would work , and probably even the silver framed mirror .

I agree with Pottsy. The first thing that struck me was too much white. Some colour needs to be thrown in. If not into painting the wall a warmer hue then instead of one large picture you could possibly give the wall some colour with a random selection of pictures? Agree with texture too, a nice table runner and plants would work.

What you have created is a beautiful clean open space. But that is only the foundation. Now what is needed is you. You need to inject your personality and your family’s into the space. For nowhere do I see anything that tells me who lives there. And this is something you can add to as you live and use the space - in effect turning a gorgeous room into a home. Perhaps a vase of flowers on table or photos on sideboard or yes perhaps eventually changing mirror to a piece of art that grabs you. The trick is to not rush this stage. Live with the room and gradually add items you love to personalise it as yours. You have created a beautiful backdrop now it just needs you.

Hi Siri, thank you. We do offer frames in oak, white, black & silver mouldings. Oak gives that lovely organic timber texture.

How about paint the wall with mirror on it a strong colour - like Sea Creature emerald green or a warm earthy orange and put a vibrantly coloured large artwork on it? Agree, that a large, even giant-sized, wicker lampshade lung fairly low over the dining table would look great - especially over a sisal rug beneath the dining table. And, yes, put one or two table lamps on the sideboard below the mirror/artwork to create mood lighting. It's a terrific space!

I think that Paulettes advice is spot on. The room should speak to you and of you. Add things that provoke passion in you, remove those that don’t. If you fill the space with things YOU love, you w come to love the room and so will others.
