It's funny you mention greenery Decoro -- I was going to suggest painting the ceiling and the inside of the door in a 'mid greenery green' , and adding a couple of taller , skinnier green plants in natural orangey terracota pots -- it then wouldn't look as harsh as the black , but ties in with the greenery outside .

I like Decoro’s reference to the Frank Lloyd-Wright vibe. We are actually changing the front door to a solid wood, so could stain in a colour similar to the ceiling. Any ideas on styling because there are floor to ceiling louvres so suits a view straight through (we had a sideboard there before and it felt cramped.

In biophilic design there is the concept of prospect and refuge. Your home might feel light and airy but this room has a feeling of hiding away and escape, especially with those big beautiful banana leaves out the window, it's fantastic! Once you get some furnishing going on it won't feel so dramatic. Definitely leave it but consider putting in some white sheers for the window to soften that wall.

I would leave your new timber door in its natural shade , as it seems similar to those trims in the kitchen area . I think it will look too heavy if you stain it dark . Julie’s idea for a stunning light hanging from the dark timber ceiling is great . There are so many unusual options available that will be framed by the dark .
