Furniture Design Dilemma Living Room

What to do with the niche!?

Hello everyone!We're moving in to this rental home soon! We're buying everything new. Really need help in furniture placing for this living room/family room. Especially need help with this niche. Where do I place my TV? In the niche or on top of the fireplace? What ideas do you guys have? I'm going for a farmhouse look so any help would be great! Thanks in advance.

If your TV fits use the niche with a cabinet in your style underneath.

What tile for shower niche?

The other showers throughout we are just keeping the same tile with the niche so wanted to change this one up seeing as it's a big niche and make more of a feature of it. Am thinking a herringbone type tile or even small hexagons but it's more colour that I'm not sure about. A lot of those tiles are marble like colour The style of home is contemporary/Scandic if that's even a style ha ha!

boxed trim for tiles niche or smaller trim??

Hi Shannon, I always use a flat trim in this instance. A boxed trim (ie. square section) will visually look bigger because it has 2 surfaces. The trim needs to be the correct size for the tiles - therefore if you have 10mm thick tiles, you must use a 10 x 10mm square trim. when selecting a flat trim consider which 'face' you want it to be installed on. I try to select a trim that matches the tiles as closely as possible for a more seamless appearance. Here are photos of a shower niche in an airline lounge I worked on recently using a flat trim. If you have the time I would fix it. Tiling, etc. (& bathrooms in general) are expensive and its almost impossible to fix down the track when you get sick of looking at it.... you will look at it every time you have a shower and say to yourself, why did I not just fix the bloody thing!

Seen as it’s a rental, I would put your tv in the niche like bigreader suggested, and a painting above the fireplace or a round mirror.

Thank you to all! Definitely going to put the TV in the Niche. Any ideas on the furniture? Would a sectional or a couch and loveseat look better in this space?

You could mix your couches, say leather or fabric, adding modern pieces to your farmhouse look especially a hint of black would look gorgeous, a neutral rug would tie in the whole picture.

Hi Candy, I would suggest putting it above the fireplace and adding bookshelving to the niche. You could then display books and decor suited to your farmhouse look. Hope that helps. Good luck with the move.
