I recently purchased these Eames era chairs (ebay $20 each), stripped them, and had them refinished in a matte walnut. I'm now a bit indecisive about what color to reupholster them in and then following on what color to paint the room. The room is long - kitchen (neutral beige cabinets & white stone bench-top) /dinning (rustic oak table w french bistro chairs)/family room. 2 walls have floor to near ceiling windows with views of our pool and garden. I was thinking an Ikat pattern would be in keeping with our eclectic style. I'm trying to find one that would either pick up the blue of the pool and pink of the Oleander tree or both, and coordinate with the leather couch. I'd also like to find coordinating fabrics for cushions. I'm afraid of getting into a too matchy-matchy rut and would like to create something interesting. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I think the blue would help lead your eye out the window and towards the view of the pool. i always love the blue and brown combination too. I love ikat, but I'm afraid that print will date itself soon because it has been so popular in the last few years. Would you consider a solid fabric and using the ikat as your cushion?

Either of those fabrics would be great - Just depends on what you prefer, knowing that these are the colors that you'll repeat throughtout your space for accessories, etc.

When you make your purchase, get a couple extra yards to have throw pillows made for the sofa as well.

Why not make the seat and back cushions reversible using both fabrics. So you can flip them seasonaly or whenever the mood.

Lava stone bench is fantastic! You have great taste so I am sure you will make it all work. As with any room, maybe just consider which element you want to be the 'hero' ie. do you want people to notice the benchtop first, the rug? Then play up that feature and blend the rest into the background more. If you have too much going on colour or pattern-wise the different elements of the room will compete with each other and the room won't have it's focus. Love love your bar chairs as well!!! :-)

I love that look too - it's bright, clean and classic without being stark. Think about a warm white as it'll pick up warmth of Creme Brulee caesarstone. Perhaps look at Dulux Antique White. Remember too if there's a colour that matches your caesarstone and you like it you can do it in half or quarter strength so that it tones but isnt the same. If you can only get small paint chip samples grab a bunch of them and tape them together and put them in the space your cabinets will be with a sample of the caesarstone - paint colours change depending upon light. I would personally go with blue. Red is tiring to look at for a long time and I would n't want anything prohibiting the lovely view outside the window...as for painting the walls perhaps something neutral would be a safer choice... but put a painting or something above the sofa...

What a great score with your chairs! As someone mentioned previously, your sofa has red undertones. Which makes me think the red print might make for a more cohesive look. But both are very nice.

Since you have all brown and red tones as your foundation, how about using a solid color fabric on the chair cushions in a turquoise and adding your prints with throw pillows? This would give you more flexibility in the future when you tire of a particular print. Maybe you could find a print that has the pinks and the turquoise. Blues always look beautiful with browns and a bright pink would be a nice accent color. The walls could be a neutral and then use artwork with color.

Very nice fabrics, I'd have a hard time choosing! I was reading the other day, many top decorators choose the paint color last...then buy small quantities of the paint and see what color enhances your things.

I agree with a few other responses that recommend a solid color for the fabric for the chair cushions. While the fabric could be textured for interest, I would go with a solid. Perhaps the teal blue of the ikat fabric print you love so much. I have made many decorating mistakes by selecting print fabrics. You do grow tired of them and they do limit decorating possibilities. They also can add to a cluttered look if you like to have a lot of decorative items or wall art. I would definitely stick with the solid and make throw pillow covers to use elsewhere in the room out of the ikat fabrics.

I like your second fabric, the red. But i would do a difrent fabric on the other side so you can flip them for a diffrent look/feel like a person above said.
I would not use your first choice. I would look for a fabric with some blue & brown, or blue with light green, or even blue, light green and brown. I also agree with the person above to make matching throw pillows for the couch.
I would pick a light to med shade of brown family or green family for the walls.

I'd go with a beige canvas and a whole variety of pillow colors to change the decor depending on your mood.

Why dont you do one chair in each of these fabrics and then make extra cushions for the sofa. Just make sure the length of the oval shapes in the fabrics run the same way.

I would encourage you to skip the Ikat and go with a large scale graphic, modern print. Ikat doesn't completely align with mid-century modern furniture, although it is of course pretty to look at.

Here's an example of a classic Eames chair upholstered in a bold Maharam textile. It emphasizes the clean lines found in your chair, as well as your couch. Best of luck!
