Step Inside a London Designer’s Elegant Edwardian Home

In this episode of Houzz TV Live, London designer Claudia Dorsch gives a virtual tour of her family’s Edwardian home in Hampstead. Dorsch kept the traditional layout with separate rooms rather than tear down walls to create an open plan. But she moved the kitchen from a dark location in the middle of the home to an area at the rear that enjoys natural light and a connection to the backyard terrace and garden. An unusual granite island countertop with a pebbled look and a combination of light wood and glossy white cabinets join an antique hutch to create a modern-meets-traditional style. Dorsch also highlights a laundry room packed with storage features and a master bedroom designed to function like a suite at a fancy hotel, with millwork details on the walls and a ceiling inspired by French chateaus.

The ability to hide a messy area behind closed doors is one reason to keep a kitchen as a separate space. Another is that sooner or later, the hood will need repair or replacement, and grease is very hard to clean off soft and other non-scrub surfaces.

Absolutely lovely renovation. Ms. Dorsch perfectly married the old with the new, being true to the grace and style of the old while incorporating new finishes and accents. The mouldings and trim are wonderful. Fabulous kitchen, laundry and master suite! With all the attention to storage and space use, it is a perfect family home.

It's a beautiful home. My favorite parts are the moldings and the marble fireplace with the antique glass.

When ever I host a party I get as much food catered as possible that way the kitchen does not get messy,
And I cook less and the open concept works better.
Because I’m using the kitchen as a buffet area!

What is the 'treatment' on the kitchen windows? Looks like strands of little lights???

Also, I was struck at the entry - as I've been on my (too rare) visits to the UK - the high, high sheen of paint (emulsion?) on the woodwork. It seems harder and just so much more attractive than any paint available in the US. Details?
