Bronte House, 2008
Bronte House is a rear extension of an existing home, undertaken to better support a growing family and accommodate frequent visiting guests.
Having previously completed a studio at the rear of the property, the project revisits the house to extend its living capacity. The brief focused on creating a new deck and outdoor entertaining area that would complement the existing studio and improve the way the house is used.
The rear of the home was opened up with bifold doors, allowing the interior and exterior to connect more directly and creating a more fluid living environment. A steel framework was introduced to support the new structure, with a gyprock-lined ceiling selected to sit comfortably alongside the existing architecture without competing with it.
A hardwood deck and staging area were constructed, incorporating metal balustrading and stainless steel wire detailing. These elements work together to form a robust and practical outdoor space suited to everyday use and entertaining.
Delivered through close collaboration with the architect and client, the project provides a straightforward and effective extension to the home — improving functionality and outdoor living while maintaining continuity with the existing built elements.
