Northbridge House, 2008

Northbridge House is a contemporary new build carefully positioned within a complex natural site defined by sandstone outcrops, dense vegetation and views toward the water.

The house is conceived as a compact volume, allowing all primary rooms to sit at the perimeter and maximise access to light, outlook and cross-ventilation. This approach ensures a strong connection between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape, while maintaining a controlled and efficient footprint.

Entry is via a bridge across a sunken courtyard, establishing a layered arrival sequence that balances privacy and openness. At the centre of the home, an open staircase with a skylight above draws natural light deep into the plan, reinforcing vertical connection and spatial clarity.

The material palette is restrained and performance-driven, combining concrete, timber and plaster finishes to create a stable internal environment. Operable openings, louvres and carefully positioned shading elements support passive climate control, reducing reliance on mechanical systems and allowing the house to perform consistently throughout the year.

Delivered through a disciplined construction process, the project reflects a careful balance between site, structure and environmental performance.

The result is a calm, highly liveable home — shaped by its landscape and defined by clarity, durability and considered execution.
