Surry Hills Office, 2008
Surry Hills Office is the conversion of a two-storey Victorian corner building into a modern and functional workplace.
The project involved addressing a number of structural and engineering challenges uncovered during demolition. Working within a tight timeline, the project was delivered through close coordination between architect, engineer, client and builder, allowing issues to be resolved efficiently while maintaining progress on site.
Externally, the façade was reworked to restore the building’s original character. Shopfront elements were removed and replaced with curved windows, rendered arches and detailed scrollwork, returning the structure to its earlier Victorian expression.
Internally, the brief focused on creating a bright and functional contemporary office environment. A central courtyard was opened up to bring natural light deep into the building, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and improving the overall quality of the workspace.
The result is a workplace that balances heritage restoration with modern use — combining the character of the original building with a clear and efficient interior suited to everyday business operations.
