Bronte House, 2023
Bronte House is a considered extension and transformation of an existing single-storey home, undertaken for a growing family whose needs had outpaced the original layout.
Rather than replacing the house, the project builds upon the existing structure through the addition of a second storey and a rear extension, significantly increasing the home’s spatial capacity and improving its connection to outdoor living areas. A new timber deck, swimming pool and landscaped garden reinforce a strong indoor–outdoor relationship, supporting both everyday family life and entertaining.
The architectural language introduces a softer, more expressive character. Rounded forms, Mediterranean-inspired render and carefully detailed timber elements refine the existing façade, creating a cohesive balance between the original structure and the new addition.
A high level of craftsmanship underpins the project. This is evident in the precision of the oversized timber pergola, the application of textured render over the existing brickwork, and the finely resolved joinery throughout — contributing to both function and finish.
The project was delivered through close collaboration between client, architect and builder, supported by an established working relationship and clear communication on site. This allowed design decisions to be resolved efficiently and ensured consistency in the execution of the architectural intent.
The result is a family home that balances refinement with everyday liveability — generous in scale yet grounded in its suburban coastal context.
Bronte House was recognised as a Finalist in the MBA Excellence in Housing Awards 2024 (House Alterations & Additions), reflecting the quality of the build and the strength of the collaboration behind it.
