Bronte House, 2025
Bronte House is a considered renovation of an existing beachside home, undertaken for a young family returning to Australia. The project focuses on reworking a compromised internal layout to better support contemporary living, improving light, flow and connection to outdoor spaces.
A key intervention was the removal of an enclosed central staircase, which unlocked the plan and allowed the living areas to be reconfigured as a more open and cohesive environment. New skylights were introduced to bring natural light deep into the home, while large openings at the rear connect the interior directly to a new deck and garden.
At the centre of the house, a sculptural spiral staircase in American Oak acts as both a functional element and a crafted focal point, anchoring the interior and expressing the level of workmanship applied throughout the project.
Material interventions are deliberately restrained, allowing light, proportion and craftsmanship to define the space. The result is a lighter, more open and highly liveable family home — where improvements are achieved through clarity and precision rather than scale.
Delivered through close collaboration between client, architect and builder, the project reflects a disciplined construction process and a shared commitment to resolving design intent with care.
