Mosman House, 2009

Mosman House is a renovation of an existing home, where the original street-facing structure is retained while the rear is reimagined to support contemporary living.

The front of the house preserves its heritage character, including ornate ceilings, architraves and traditional detailing. In contrast, the rear is fully modernised through a restrained, minimalist intervention, while maintaining continuity through the use of stone and timber as a unifying material language.

A new cantilevered deck extends from the kitchen, creating a generous outdoor entertaining area while also providing shading to the lower level. This intervention strengthens the connection between interior spaces and the pool and garden, allowing the home to open outward and engage with its setting.

The project balances old and new through clarity rather than contrast — allowing the heritage elements to remain legible while introducing a contemporary living environment that is open, functional and light-filled.

Delivered through careful coordination and attention to detail, the result is a cohesive family home where architectural character and modern use are brought together through a considered and disciplined approach to construction.
