Dover Heights House, 2023

Dover Heights House replaces a modest coastal cottage on a cliff-edge site overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Shaped by prolonged exposure to wind, salt air and strong coastal light, the project was defined by a clear brief: to deliver a home grounded in durability, performance and long-term resilience.

The new residence is constructed using concrete and brick as primary structural materials, providing mass, stability and resistance to the coastal environment. These materials are expressed as the architectural language of the house, forming both structure and identity.

Curved forms and softened external corners temper the building’s solidity, while large, carefully integrated glazed openings capture ocean views and natural light without compromising performance. The execution required precise coordination across trades, particularly in the delivery of curved structural elements, exposed junctions and expansive glazing.

The material palette is deliberately restrained. Polished concrete floors, textured external surfaces and bespoke joinery introduce subtle variation while maintaining a focus on robustness and clarity. Each element was selected for its ability to perform over time in a demanding coastal context.

Delivered through close collaboration between client, architect and builder, the project reflects a disciplined construction process where design intent was consistently tested against buildability and long-term durability.

The result is a calm, resilient coastal home — defined by structural clarity, material integrity and a measured response to site.
