Fall in Love With Timber-Look Tiles
Do you love the warming look of rustic timber floors, yet you’re concerned about their upkeep and longevity? The answer is easy. Timber-look tiles come in a range of finishes, styles and plank sizes, and will provide a hard-wearing, practical floor that brings all the character of wood boards without the worry of scratching, denting or re-staining.
Ensure everyday warmth with underfloor heating. If you’re still unsure whether this hard, unyielding and cool material is going to make your living space feel comfy and cosy, add underfloor heating and you’ll have comfort all year round. Beaumont Tiles’ designer, Christie Wood, explains how tiles have high thermal conductivity, meaning the heat transfers to the floor surface quickly. “It also retains heat well, not only making the system efficient but ensuring toasty toes even in rooms that have high heat loss,” she says.

What About Faux-Parquet Flooring?
Parquet is a huge interior trend as it brings an elegant and timeless look to any space – however real wood parquet also brings with it a hefty price tag. Short strip, timber-look tiles offer a relatively inexpensive alternative while still creating that familiar contrasting effect of real parquet.
Cosy it up with warming textures. You don’t have to invest in underfloor heating to add warmth. Rugs, cow hides and upholstered furniture will soften the cool surfaces in an instant, while introducing another layer of comfort and interest to the scheme.

Curate a Cool, Industrial Vibe
If you’re not keen on the cosy charm of wood and prefer a cooler, more contemporary edge, then take a look at concrete-style tiles. Utterly sleek and extremely minimal, they offer a thoroughly modern finish that would work perfectly in a raw, industrial scheme. Team with other robust materials, like bare brick, worn leather and rustic timber, and you’ll work the warehouse trend perfectly.
Consider maintenance in high-traffic areas. Liquid spills, muddy boots, animal accidents – these everyday mishaps that can affect the appearance, efficiency and smell of some floorings. However, non-porous flooring, such as glazed porcelain and ceramic tiles, do not absorb moisture or leave uninvited odours. “Tiles can be simply mopped off, unlike timber floorboards that can retain a dark spot and a terrible smell, or worse still, the shag pile carpet which can create all sorts of bother if your pet has a mishap!” says Wood.

Large Format Tiles Vs Smaller Tiles
It may be true what they say about good things and small packages, however when it comes to big floor tiles they can certainly have a positive effect. Floors that feature lots of grout lines can appear busy and distracting, while large format tiles that have less lines and a grout colour that matches the tile, will create a sleek, seamless effect, and in turn, make the room feel more spacious. …smaller tiles can also be used to great effect. The attention-grabbing pattern of mosaics or printed tiles will create a visual feast, bringing depth and definition to any space. Can’t choose between them? Team large format tiles with smaller tiles for a winning combination, as seen here.

Hi, what is a ‘tactile material for a textural effect’?
Tiles can certainly look good but there can be dangerous. We have just moved into a new house and there are tiles in many areas, particularly the wet areas like the bathroom and when they are wet they are like a skating rink. We have had to install grab handles everywhere to prevent more slipping and sliding. There are floor tiles that are non-slippery when wet but for some reason, shiny appearance is deemed more important than broken hips.
