Our recommendations for light sizing over islands are: take the width of the island in inches, subtract 12 from that and then that is the ideal maximum size for a light to go over it. Taking 12 away from 36 is 24, which means the 12" lights are not too wide at all! Plus, their open and airy style won't take up tons of visual space either.
