there's nothing to require the island to be stone top either, i think the grain character (knots) works here for the top.

i think the island stone top plus wood sides looks better than the wraparound stone down the sides of the island in a previous photo.

Silvestre mentioned that an owner tried silver finish lighting in the kitchen and it didn't work, but it worked in the bathroom. This seems like the silver light finish could work, but perhaps because it's larger space? orientation of the flooring perhaps needs to be done similarly, although the dining room's long side is cross to the kitchen's long side. I was originally leaning towards a granite textured counter, but a clean light counter could work for me.

I think this window and shelving is better executed than the Seattle picture example. The contrasting baseboard around cabinets is nice. I like the horizontal handles again.

This house in Seattle -- the shelves backed by window. I wasn't sure to preserve the nice view of the back yard or using glassware as art.

cabinet color, yes. grain texture a little too much. stainless steel appliances, yes. high hood and space above range, yes. I wonder how a darker floor works with the cabinet color.

so this works -- floor color would need to be similar tone to cabinets. I like the long handles (lines) shelving above sink is good -- doesn't need to be edge to edge cabinetry. The idea of have a contrasting island is good, although i'm not sure about the gray color of material. Maybe a different color.
