1. Double-Duty Appliances
Even if space in your new kitchen is limited, you’ll thank yourself later when catering for friends and family if you select appliances that perform multiple functions.
Most meals are made up of several different dishes, not just one. So it makes sense to choose a cooktop and oven that can simultaneously whip up multiple mains, sides and accompaniments in separate compartments, without compromising on their different temperature needs or cooking styles.

3. Self-Cleaning Appliances
Of all the blunders hosts can make, few are as embarrassing as smoking out the house during a dinner party due to cooking in a grimy oven. But of all the home appliances entertainers have ever scrubbed, none are as tricky to clean as the traditional oven. Thankfully, pyrolytic technology has put an end to hours spent scouring the oven with toxic cleaning chemicals – pyrolytic ovens are self-cleaning: just flick a switch then sit back and relax while your oven literally cleans itself.
One model that does just that is Falcon’s Professional+ FXP 90-centimetre Dual Fuel Range Cooker, which boasts a pyrolytic cleaning function that heats the oven to 450 degrees celsius, at which point all cooking residue inside the oven is carbonised into a fine ash. At the end of the cleaning cycle, the thin film of ash can simply be wiped up with a damp sponge, leaving a pristine interior, ready for the next round of entertaining.
If you host guests regularly or simply enjoy a good bake off, pyrolytic ovens are a must. They take the work out of cleaning to ensure this essential kitchen appliance is always ready to roast the next feast in an oven that’s as good as new.

5. Integrated Range Hoods
When it comes to creating wow factor in a stylish entertainer’s kitchen, integrated range hoods often rate higher than canopy range hoods for many kitchen designers. This is because integrated range hoods can be dressed up with beautiful custom cladding to form a dramatic design feature, or hidden from view within your upper cabinets for a sleek, seamless look. Canopy range hoods still have their place, but if you’re after a kitchen that’s big on style, seek out an integrated range hood.

Falcon Nexus 110-centimetre Nexus SE induction upright range cooker in Slate.
You’ll want to choose a design that’s powerful yet whisper-quiet, such as Falcon’s 80-centimetre undermount range hood, which achieves maximum ducted extraction of 800 cubic metres per hour. If you have a larger cooktop or oven, consider upping your range hood as well to a design equipped with twin fans that extract a combined 1600 cubic metres per hour, like Falcon’s 100-centimetre undermount range hood.
These quiet achievers make quick work of airborne grease and odours, capturing them before the surfaces of your kitchen do, which results in fast, easy clean-ups and soirees free from lingering cooking smells.

The Falcon Elise is gorgeous but sadly only the gas version and not the induction is available in Australia. When I rang Andi-Co to ask why they didn't import the induction version I spoke to an incredibly rude woman who said that induction was a "niche" market (but Andi-Co do import the induction in the Classic and other ranges so this is a BS excuse, also at the hefty price tag the Elise, itself, is more niche than average anyway). When I mentioned that the Elise Induction ranges were available in New Zealand she sarcastically retorted that New Zealand is another country and that the Elise Induction wasn't "approved to Australian standards" which also seems like BS given that it is my understanding that Australia and NZ have agreed electrical standards for appliances that apply to both countries. She said that the gas top on the Elise is excellent for cooking and I didn't disagree. I cook with gas now and it is spectacular for that job, but it is a fossil fuel and the planet is dying. I also mentioned that going induction was a way to future-proof my investment. This is not a small consideration as literally everyone I know is talking about replacing their gas stoves with induction technology next time around. This interaction was extremely disappointing and I was a bit shocked at the level of antipathy with which my enquiry was received. Yes, I could get another induction stove in the Falcon range, but truth is a modern range won't suit the styling of my period home and I find the classic somewhat ugly. The Elise, on the other hand is the stove of my dreams.
