Stock Up for Winter
Prepare to embrace your exterior space all year round, including the very coldest months, with dedicated outdoor heating that is guaranteed to heat things up. Whether you opt for a slimline gas or electric heater recessed into an overhead structure for a streamlined finish, or a striking woodburner for a bold statement, you can enjoy comfortable mealtimes throughout the most wintery of days. Along with an outdoor heater, ramp up the comfort factor with extra cosy elements like warming throws and delicious decanters of red wine, while ambient fairy lights or overhead LEDs will ensure you can enjoy the occasion for longer.
Make your set-up even easier to control. With a wireless controller, you can connect your outdoor heating set-up to your home automation system and regulate the temperature in your exterior spaces at the touch for button.

Embrace the “Transterior” Trend
The outdoor room is evolving, as it blurs the boundaries between indoors and out. As more homeowners seek to create a seamless connection between their interior and exterior living spaces, designs for semi-enclosed outdoor rooms with substantial extensions of roof space are becoming increasingly popular, as are contemporary freestanding pavilions and cabanas. These appealing structures are great for incorporating heating, lighting and fans, as well as cooking equipment to create the ultimate outdoor kitchen.
Create a clean look that doesn’t distract from the view. If you’re blessed with a breathtaking outlook, the last thing you’ll want are unsightly heaters disrupting the calm. Instead, hunt out a low-clearance heating design that will blend seamlessly into a semi-enclosed space.

Bring the Indoors Out
If you have an overhead structure featuring climate-controlling heaters, why not evoke a sense of permanence to the zone with interior touches? For example, a cosy indoor sofa and armchair will create an inviting lounge space in the open air, while a decorative rug and layers of comforting textures will ensure it stays cocooning and cosy. To further connect your indoor-outdoor spaces, pop in plenty of lush greenery in chic planters to retain the feeling of being surrounded by nature, while also adding intense colour and texture.
Ensure your furniture stays tip-top all year. If you decide to display interior furniture outdoors, invest in robust and protective covers that will withstand wet and cold weather. Alternatively, you could opt for weather-resistant furniture, such as wicker, aluminium or steel and rattan, that you don’t have to cover or fix up between seasons.

Define zones for year-round entertaining
Consider how you use your outdoor space and what you need from it all year round, then make it work extra hard to meet your demands for every season by creating clearly defined zones for different activities. Opt for covered eating and living areas that feature cosy heating for the cooler months, or alfresco dining terraces and sunken seating spots that can be illuminated with atmospheric lanterns or fire pits on summer evenings. Your exterior can become a multi-functioning lifestyle space that caters for everyday living whatever the season.
Look to fun entertaining ideas to liven up the cooler months. Whether it’s cooking a hearty winter dish on the BBQ or in a pizza oven, or hosting a cosy movie night wrapped up in blankets in front of a projector, look to your exterior as an extension of your home and you’ll discover a whole host of new and exciting living spaces for your family and friends to enjoy.

Lots of nice ideas for heating but I was hoping to read more about how to cover in an open deck to protect us from the wind and rain and still have the option of opening up the area when the weather is sunny and calm. The wind is the main problem. We love being outside.
You can also install underfloor outdoor heating if you have hydronic heating in your home, or have it built into a slab in your alfresco area. Toastie warm feet and the warm air passes your body, invisible, effective, efficient, fantastic. Hydronics@crystalcleareng.com.au
Hydronic slab heating outdoors is the most efficient use of energy compared to standup LPG gas bottles, overhead electric or gas radiators which use 4 x more energy than insulated passive in slab heating.
