We hired Hutch Architecture based on a recommendation from a local Heritage Architect to handle the design and council submissions for a small home addition in Newcastle East. Given that the property is situated in a heritage conservation area and is subject to a distinct heritage conservation management plan, the project presented unique challenges and constraints. Working with Ed was a fantastic experience; he made the entire process—from design to council approval—smooth and efficient. The quality of the design work was impressive, and the level of service provided, marked by consistent and open communication, was outstanding. Based on this experience, I certainly recommend Hutch Architecture to anyone considering their services.

The lovely Ed designed a contemporary, functional, yet luxe home that incorporated all of the features we wanted as well as some that we did not think of. We used Hutch Architecture to design our new Mount Vincent, Hunter Valley home and we couldn't be more satisfied with the professionalism, thoughtful design and service provided. Hutch came up with the perfect design, capturing precisely the modern farmhouse look we were aiming for, thoughtfully optimised for the contours and outlook of the site itself. We wanted something modern, but had the warmth and elegance of a traditional country farmhouse and Ed's eye for detail delivered. He also kept us within a strict budget. After trying with a number of other designers and architects, Hutch immediately understood what we were looking for and put forward some great suggestions to work around some of the site complexities. It was also an absolute pleasure working with Ed throughout the process. He was always patient, honest and proactive during all our interactions and it took a lot of stress out of the design and building process. The result is a country home that is practical, beautiful and the perfect place to raise our young family. We can't recommend Hutch highly enough!

Hutch did an incredible job. We can highly recommend Ed based on our experience with the design for our home. We had an idea of what we wanted, but the drawings and ideas coming back from other designers just wasn't quite right. The site also presented some challenges given it is on a slope and the best view is to the south. Ed understood immediately what we were looking for and was able to make the changes so we could get the look we wanted. His design captured the vision we had for the house, but also brought in very practical elements like the glass window in the staircase to let in northern light. He also had great attention to the minor details that really give the house its character. The design was also done in stages so we can continue to add to it down the track when money allows. Ed was great to work with, always patient and listening to our ideas and providing terrific feedback and suggestions. The process of getting approval and building through the pandemic was a massive challenge, but working with Ed was probably the best part.
