Our market focused area is predominantly around the Sunshine Coast & Noosa Heads through to Canondale. We specialise in small project design which can be anything from decks, patio roofs, small renovation from As-Built structures. I started work as a Carpentry Apprentice at the age of 24 in New Zealand. After qualifying for Trade & Advanced Certificates I went on to study full time towards the New Zealand Architectural Diploma and continued my studies while based on the Gold Coast. Upon arriving in Australia in 1993 I worked at Burleigh Timbers for several years which helped me develop my knowledge in the use of Australian native timbers, there application and further enhanced other skills in relation to framing, floor and roof truss design. Over the years since then I have worked for Perry Homes, NewStart Homes and a number of other builders both as an employee and on a contract basis and continue to work on a contract basis for builders at time to time. Initial first steps: Usually I will have clients contact me to ask a few questions and some of these are: 1. Do I go to the Builder first, Council or Building Designer?, 2. How much will it cost? & 3. What is the next step? The Building Designer is your first contact person, this way the plans remain your copyright not the Builders. The Builder may not be aware of all the building regulations specific to your site. Most of the time I try and give an estimate on the cost over the phone provide the client can supply enough information and the reason for this is that we are both aware of the possible cost before even going to site. If that cost is within the client’s expectations, then I can arrange a day and time to visit the site to provide an obligation free quote. Generally, on the initial conversation I will run through the process from the Design to Building Approval and make the client aware of additional costs that maybe incurred from other professionals that are needed for their job. This may range from Engineers, Energy Efficiency or Noise Control Reports as an example which will also be site specific. Our Consultancy service includes organising & obtaining quotes as necessary from Engineers, Surveyors, Building Certifiers, Quantity Surveyors, Tenders & Defect Reports.
