Hi there. My partner and I just recently purchased a house and we are looking to start some renovations in the kitchen area. The house we purchased was originally made in 1948, with some updates done in the 1970s, but not much done since then. As a result, there is vinyl flooring throughout the kitchen that we would like to replace. Since the flooring was installed pre-1990s, we are almost certain that there is asbestos beneath, so we were planning on installing the tiles on top of the existing vinyl. What kinds of things do we need to keep an eye out for? I know tile/mortar is a heavier floor compared to the vinyl, is there a chance that our existing floor will have a problem managing the added weight?
