Michael, when you say dark timber blinds do you mean timber venetian blinds, matchstick blinds, or plantation shutters? Most blinds are usually a fabric. My biggest concern is that with your light coloured carpet any dust that settles on the horizonatal "blade" of the blind will be very obvious, and you will need to spend a lot of time dusting to keep them looking clean. Plantation shutters and timber venetians are traditionally white - they still collect the same amount of dust, but it is not so obvious! My suggestion is two sets of Roman or Roller blinds . The left can be down for dimming and the right partway up or down for air . I have a personal distaste for vertical blinds which look cheap . I am gradually doing window and door treatments through Blinds Online and I am really happy . You also could do double curtains with sheer and blockout which you could draw to the left .
