OMG I'm so envious, black doors are the best, I wanted them in our new house but hubby said no, he just doesn't get it haha... anyway, bottom line yes to painting your internal doors black, and no you don't need to paint the skirtings black too... and in case you need a little more convincing, here are 11 reasons to go for it...

It all depends on the overall look that you're after, black trims & skirtings can look good as well, provided you've got good lighting and contrasting floors (e.g. light grey) & walls (e.g. lexicon half), for example the Centennial House:


But you don't need to paint the trims & skirtings black, you can get away with just the door being black, if you have a look at "black interior doors" photos on Houzz, most of the trims & skirtings aren't black:

P.S. make sure it's a semi-gloss or matt finish though, as gloss black will be too much... good luck ;)

Try charcoal, do one door then live with it for a while. It's only paint...go for it

We've just painted a white lead light style window black, and it's amazing how clean it looks against the white walls, plus adds interest. We are doing our doors next too - I think it will look great and recommend you go for it :)

The doors with some sort of beading or detailing seem to break up the solid mass of black and look very elegant.

Great choice! Love the Deco1, that's the door we picked too but in white, hubby still won't budge on the black :/ I saw a Deco1 door in black with a black handle too online a while ago and it looked amazing! can't seem to find that photo again tho :/

Black is very on trend at the moment. We even painted an entire master bedroom in black, see here

Hi @Pazz, I'm still working up to having the discussion! Thanks for the pic of the black deco doors, I hope it will help to convince hubby. Interesting to note the frame is painted black, but not the skirting. I'll let you know how it goes!

We've decided to go with white doors though, as we have black floors and don't want it to look too moody. Thanks all for the advice!
