Exterior colour help!

We are building a 3 storey house (on an upward sloping block) on Sydney's northern beaches. We have narrowed Colorbond roof colour down to Ironstone, Woodland Grey or Monument. Rendered wall colour we're thinking grey (light/dark not sure). And whether we do white window/door frames etc or black/dark?? And garage door?!?! Whole colour scheme is really needed!! Thanks for any suggestions! Image is the front of the house (facing west) and the side that you can see most of from the street (north).

I think white frames look stunning. Especially against darker walls

I don't know if any of those colours are like this gray but grey with white looks awesome too

Hi Teresa, are you painting the eaves also? That will affect your choice. Colours vary and can be very deceptive, but on my screen it’s coming up as a muddy yellow for example, so take this into consideration when reading the answers to your question. I love the look of the gable on the second house, but if you don’t like white as the background, perhaps consider ironstone in quarter or half strength, with the timber in full strength or vv. Luckily it’s a relatively small area, if you really don’t like the colour you choose, a fix shouldn’t be too time consuming or expensive

I'm just trying to work out -- is this 1 house or 2 units ? Why I ask is that the right side has established gardens and the like , whereas the left is left fairly plain ? As Maye says , a timber garage and entry door plus maybe a palm or similar garden on the left side , similar to the right side would all help . Even though the place looks 80's , with the block wall rendered and painted , the cedar or similar garage door , a left side garden , and even basic upgrade like tinted glass screens on the terraces ( even that stick on film will last a couple of years , maybe $1000 installed , but personally I'd go actual tinted glass even if it was $4-5k . Generally I prefer houses that look their era , but theres actually enough that has modern elements that you could , if you wanted , spend $100k and make it look 2000's , and without knowing your area or values , you'd probably get that and more back if/whem you resell , and have something more modern looking in the meantime .

I too am based on the Northern Beaches and are currently doing a massive renovation/rebuild I have gone with White exterior and Shale Grey Roof and loving it so far. I have built many times and I have found Woodlands grey to be my favourite shade of colourbond colours but it does have a green tone to it and can restrict what colours you do, but it does look good with light and dark colours. The ironstone is very blue and I think it will date most and it can be even more restricting on wall colour choices. The momument is a great colour but can look a bit faded in time.

Wow, what a stunning façade design and what a great spot to be building. Your decision to consider COLORBOND® Woodland Grey for roofing, gutter and fascia is a great option. It is modern and grey but throws a warm base it blends beautifully into any natural surround. A mid grey render option is COLORBOND® Windspray which will also reflect the beachside setting of your block. White windows would work however COLORBOND® Surfmist is a more subtle way to get a light window colour without the starkness of a pure white. It also works beautifully with the grey tones of the COLORBOND® Windspray. I would also consider COLORBOND® Surfmist for the garage door to match the windows. Lastly I would tie the roofing colour back in by rendering the porch section in COLORBOND® Woodland Grey. Less colours is better for a façade so if we can use a colour for more than on application like windows and garage door, roof and porch render it looks more cohesive. We hope that helps. Why is everyone doing grey/blue-grey/white?

Since you're in a sandstone area you could look to warmer, more 'sunny' colours like Manilla or Moving Image from the Dulux Orange palette - https://www.dulux.com.au/colour/oranges/popular

When it comes to the roof - the easiest colour to match is going to be white - also a great way to keep the home cooler ... you could go with Surfmist / Evening Haze - possibly in a half-tone.

You could even go with Zinc / tin for a very contemporary feel
