Now it's not that I don't love cleaning (right) that I know these hacks:

• White vinegar & bi-carb in conjunction clean shower screens, stainless steel, ceramic, porcelain, and smelly drains.
• Rubbing alcohol diluted with warm water, a few drops of dishwashing detergent and 20 drops of lavender work on cleaning stone and is streak free when you use a cloth to polish the stone - works on splashbacks too. Oh and Its also good for disinfecting the roller brush on the vacuum cleaner and vacuum head base - just spray the mix on a cloth not on the vacuum.
• A few Bay Leaves thrown in the pantry helps deters critters like weavils.
• Denture tablets help clean out the gunk in crystal flower vases that are hard to get your hand into - makes the job of the bottle brush easier.
• Orange oil works equally as well as Eucalyptus oil on removing sticker residue but with a milder smell and removes marks on the fridge.
• A shallow dish with white vinegar in it will help get rid of nasty smells in rooms.
• If you have really stubborn baked on gunk on the oven racks, soak them in a large tub of hot water and Napisan overnight and then wash them as normal.
• Two cups of Napisan in half a bucket of hot water makes a great mix for cleaning the timber deck before oiling it - just use a stiff broom to scrub and hose off well afterwards.

I'm interested to read people's opinions about expensive cleaning products like Enjo and Hara!

My best cleaning tip is to have multiple trays/buckets of cleaning supplies in each main area (e.g. kitchen and bathroom) so that they're on hand for quick cleaning. I also try to do a little bit of cleaning each day, rather than spending two or more hours on the weekend trying to do everything at once.

I spent money on a couple of these way back when... and don't think it was worth it. Now I just buy bags cheap microfiber cloths from the dollar shop, a big roll of chux and good spray bottles (the ones that don't drip or leak) from Bunnings, for my home made solutions and spend the money on a good quality steam mop and steam cleaner (which also helps with my other least favourite task - ironing).

However; a spray bottle with white vinegar for mould in showers.

Those little white cleaning blocks for painted walls are a life saver.

A supply of marker pens which match furniture/timber colours is always in my bag of goodies.

Magic eraser on shower doors is better than any cleaner I have used. Brilliant.

Run a window squeegie thingy (like you'd use on your car windscreen) over your shower area to get it mostly dry after showering. (If you're still building or renovating, rub car wax into your grout before you ever use it.) Finish with a microfibre cloth and it's happy days minimalist cleaning and a sparkling bathroom every day.

For the washing machine, use one eighth of the recommended laundry detergent then add about a tablespoon of bicarb. In the softener dispenser add white vinegar. Then enjoy softer, cleaner and just as fresh smelling clothes and linen for a fraction of the price.

Oh yeah, and invest in a Dyson vacuum. Worth every cent.

Agreed re the Dyson - we don't use our ducted vac system at all; just the Dysons.

BTW - I think you got the correct terminology for the 'window squeegie thingy', we use one in our shower too.

Haha CCI, it's good to know I'm not the only one happy to use such a convoluted description of a handy shower tool.

I don't think there'd be any issue with bicarb in the front loader, although I use it in a top loader with a liquid detergent. It just boosts the power of the detergent, which is why you're able to use so much less of it. The vinegar works as a softener, but doesn't leave any vinegar smell. Honestly, since doing this my towels and face cloths have been softer than ever. It took a few washes to get the full effect, but it was noticeable from the first one. Vinegar and bicarb also help keep the machine fresh and clean, as well as the plumbing, potentially saving problems down the track.

My Dyson recently blew up, it was well out of warranty. There are TWO filters you need to clean, not one... I'd only been doing the one, for almost 8 years! Anyway, they sent me a code to cover postage costs and I boxed it up and sent it off to them. They had it back to me very quickly with a brand new replacement motor (and filters), which has a new warranty on it. It cost me almost $90. Fantastic service. Every single part is replaceable, I love that. What a shame more companies don't have such great service and ethic.

Mix 1/3 dishwashing detergent with 2/3 vinegar in a spray bottle. Apply liberally to the shower, wipe over. Soak then rinse. The best scum remover I've ever used.

I've recently bought some 'eco cloths'. I love them. The glass one you use with water, and the dusting one is recommended to use dry but I use one side dry to get the dust and the other side with furniture polish. The kitchen sponge/scrub thing I use with the shower cleaner mentioned above. I've tried a few different cloths but these three are well worth the investment, IMO. I have the multi-purpose cloth but I don't find that any better than other rags.
