At Lavita Furniture, we know that caring for your outdoor furniture can be a real challenge. Here are some of our top tips for when it comes to looking after your outdoor wicker furniture.

  • Start with a good foundation by using a high quality resin wicker that’s been UV treated and colored to the core. Not only does this provide your furniture with additional protection from the elements, it also gives a more modern and polished look to your outdoor setting.

  • Resin wicker can be relatively easy to clean. Start by removing all cushions and padding before simply dusting off any dirt or particles using a soft brush. If a more thorough clean is needed, use a soft damp cloth and mild soapy water to wipe down all surfaces. Rinse with water or hose off and leave to dry before replacing cushions, to prevent mildew formation.

  • Key placement will prolong the use of your outdoor furniture. Poolside settings are prone to chlorine build up, and barbecues or outdoor ovens may cause intense heat spots if not placed far away enough. Sap or leaf mulch can also prove to be a problem if your backyard is home to an abundance of trees. And of course, claw and bite marks don’t look so great on a brand new setting, so be wary of furry friends have easy access to your outdoor area.

  • Wicker performs well in the great outdoors, but it’s best to keep all outdoor furniture covered when not in use, and out of direct sunlight. This includes any padded cushions that might come as part of your set, to prevent unsightly fading or mould.

  • Although the materials used in your outdoor furniture have been developed to resist the elements, it will only be a matter of time before wear and tear begins to show (and hopefully later rather than sooner). Take action from the get-go with some basic care and maintenance and rest assured you'll be enjoying your outdoor furniture for many years to come.
