don't tell anyone, try hanging a nice fern from a wall bracket to confuse the eye and do everything else as though the toilet is perfect but if it's not functioning properly try and put up with it until you do the major reno and replace

Trust me LesleyH, it has a lean, it's noticeable to my eye and I checked with spirit level. Bathroom guy also has acknowledged it and explained the problem.

oklouise, it is functioning ok however I know it's leaning and it will bother me! That's why I thought the wall paper will confuse the eye.

Not long to remove but the issue would be funds for a new one and a plumber to install. I'd live with it for short time until I got the newby.

It depends how it was installed. Some are set on concrete and it could've been levelled properly during install......

MB D&D, that was my thoughts that it could be levelled by building up a couple of mm. Will speak to the installer again and see what he can do. Ta!

If you don't have the budget nor time to re-do the room completely I guess your option here is to take that little awkwardness and make it a theme. Not sure if this is something for you but with some graphic illusion you could disguise the lean and draw the attention to something else. As an inspiration here are some examples of optical illusion patterns:

The horizontal grey lines are all level but the eye makes us believe they are angled. There also colourful versions out there.

If you are choosing to go with a bold pattern I would suggest to use it on the floor or opposite the entrance (where the window is) and maybe on the door facing into the room but leave the walls to the left and right in calmer colour... so you don't get dizzy in there:

This pattern could also work if the top quarter would cut off following that zigzag line to leave the upper part of the walls white:

If you choose to go with a more subtle pattern you might even be able to use it on all walls:

Basically, my advice would be to avoid any lines that could give any obvious hint about the lean. Another option would be to distract the eye by going pop-art on the walls (the entire wall):

or by using bold colours and patterns:

Hope, I could give some alternatives to the standard bathroom. It might not be your style but maybe it inspires you to something else entirely. Curious to hear what you decide in the end.

Advice is to have the plumber pull it out and re-install it. He can shim up the lower side and caulk it. The caulk line might look a bit uneven but someone who knows what they are doing can fix this for you. This is not something I would accept done poorly. Nor should you.

That's a nice wallpaper. The good thing about this wallpaper is that you could cut against the slope. If your toilet is leaning to the left just add a bit there when cutting to have an even finish at eye height.

You just have to be mindful how much of it you'd like to use. Too much can make the room very dark:

Or extend the wallpaper to the floor (you need to put a clear sealant on top to protect it from wear and tear):

But these options are only relevant if you can live with a leaning toilet.

A few people have already suggested to re-do the toilet. I have to say I wouldn't be happy either with a toilet on a slope.

Oh man. It takes how long to put a toilet in? Get it sorted. If the toilet itself is the problem, get it replaced by the supplier. If the installation is the issue, get the plumber to redo it. But wacky wallpaper isn't going to address the fundamental issue, and it shouldn't even be in consideration. Deal with the real issue.

I'd pull it out . For another 1K you can get a nice suite popped in . In the scheme of things 1K lasting 10 years that's $100 a year. That's about 33c a day.

If it was me I'd cut out on my daily coffee and get a new suite.

Thank you all for your comments especially rubyblue70 for your enthusiasm with wallpaper patterns! I should have clarified we were only thinking of using the wall paper against the back of the toilet as a kind of feature, we still may.

The toilet is being re-set today so fingers crossed.

Sadly, the leaning loo is very obvious. I'd be worrying if it will get worse so would be planning on getting it fixed asap. For a temporary fix, optical illusion wallpaper seems a good idea...but I would not like to be confronted with any of it if I were feeling sick for any reason . If you want a temporary fix and have decided on wallpaper and just at the back of the suite, use a decorative wallpaper with a little colour rather than one to create an optical illusion....Have you noticed that its the white lower sill on the window that makes the lean of the cistern obvious? The pic of the loo with the thick white line around the skirting makes it more obvious. I would paint, or wallpaper the wall at the back of the suite and paint the window frame another colour other than white..maybe one of the darker colours in the wallpaper pattern so it won't draw attention to the slant of the top of the cistern running parallel (or supposed to be) with the window frame.The eye will not be drawn to the lean. Think 'decorative' rather than 'remedial'...worth a try at very little expense..it could work...until you can get it fixed and it I can almost guarantee that this would not make it look worse. If this were my dilemma I'd go for a nature scene in the wallpaper rather than a pattern...keep away from straight lines...and use one of the scenic colours on the window frame...make it disappear into the scene... then there's nothing to draw the eye to the slant because there's nothing absoutely straight anewhere near the top of the cistern. We have a similar problem with our letter box. I is called the Leaning Letter Box of Carine Glades. We think the cleaning lady may have nudged it with her car, and despite my wifes pleading I am not going to straighten it up until she owns up.

The 'fix' does not seem to have required too much fuss. Glad its solved. Must have been a horrible niggle at the back of your mind. One thing, though, I got to see wallpaper designs that I would never have imagined...some left me quite dizzy.

The problem was the toilet pan was not even at the bottom causing it to sit crooked. The installer thought it was the cistern that was the problem but after taking a closer look he just built the pan up a little on the left and resealed it, problem fixed!

And yes it did bother me and even if we ended up disguising it with wallpaper I would've known and it would always bother me. I'm so glad I asked for advice here and received the suggestions to get him to fix it.

To Martin.....whilst on the subject of "askew toilet suites" ...I bought a very old cottage on a very empty corner block...and it had a very exposed outhouse..quaint but a bit embarassing as was the enormous Hills Hoist both visible from the main street. Everyone could see your undies for miles and knew when the owner was in the outhouse...More amazing when a desperate visitor came and knocked on the outhouse door ! That was the 1980s. There was a sewered loo just inside the back door in what was a mud room or an ante room to the back entrance to the house...., not very private either... forget to secure the 'falling-off' back door with the supplied length of twine ...and one could be seen enthroned! A couple of make-do fibro walls had gone up around the "suite"....in all a very curious situation. I did not have the immediate funds to rectify the problem and with no carpentry experience...so a rod and a weighted- hem curtain was the best I could do for a while and keep the back door secured for the time being. I

This was a very dismal situation. All I could do was make fun of it so it wouldn't get me down. I went to town with my artistic talents and paints...a mural appeared on the back wall of the loo room....Not meant to be a masterpiece by any stretch and "in sync" with the kids' cartoons here and there throughout the house

Thanks Martin....its been a few years so its probably classified as "Pop"...but was totally "tongue in cheek" at the time .

just reinstall it ,if careful ,may can have toilet remover with not damaged it . just have a plumber do it .

spent all the way to do the wall , the floor , did not changed the lean toilet. that cost more then you just replace it for reinstall it. it s not worth to spent more then remove it, no more sore eye when you go in to the toilet , and not remind you that toilet is lean.

My first thought would be - put a plant above the toilet - perhaps on a narrow shelf , or a hanging basket. A sprawling plant would distract the eye from the geometry of the fixture! Cost is minimal and if it works you're done!
