Help with bedroom wall colours

Wanted to get some thoughts on appropriate colours for our bedroom. Haven't moved in yet so have not been able to get some sample pots and do some testing but open to thoughts. Want something subtle. The master pictured is at the front of the home and faces west. We have a marri bedroom suite similar to the one pictured. Thanks

I like the deeper taupe colours. Has a warm feel. Have a look at Resene oilskin in perhaps half strength, it's a grey brown colour

I always think white looks best, and then interest added with big paintings / photos - it's so much more flexible than painting walls in a colour (plus it shows off the paintings better, that's why art galleries always have white walls).

Maybe spray paint those blinds white as well!

Hi, thanks to everyone. My son is a teenager. He finds "temple" too depressing/cold so I think I will take your advice - go with a light colour. The temple does look good against the red bedhead and the current bedlinen! Luckily, he is over the poster stage and is happy to have photos and frame prints on his walls. Sadly, the trophies still need to be on display collecting dust! I might just do the grey pebble in full strength or do you a feature wall is worth doing?

my suggestion has an ens and wiw and uses the old bedroom door for a linen cupboard, although the toilet could be placed at either end to be closer to the original sewerage, this arrangement allows for more privacy for the toilet, more standing room near the shower, wall space for a towel rail and room in teh wiw for a chest of drawers..the vanity is over 2m long with cabinet under the (one or twin) sinks and open shelves next to the toilet for towels .. and, while you're adding the new ens, it would be worthwhile to plan the new access to the kitchen and new laundry

I agree with Jan -- a lot is personal , and your lifestyles . You say neutral colours , so a wheat type colour for the carpet is a good middle of the road choice , but maybe not practical with kids who like crayons and facepainting and stripping down motorbikes haha . So in that case , maybe a burgundy or mid blue or similar 'solid' colour may suit better ( burgundy may tie in more with the exterior tones ) , but is still sort of neutral , but what about furniture and linen and artwork -- if you have royal blue or fluro green drawers and a brown chair and sunshine yellow duvet/dooner cover , and the room is for someone older than 4 , then burgundy carpet mightn't be the go haha . The existing wall colour works with most things , you can add artwork or posters or sports or academic certificates -- maybe back to front , but I'd sort out everything else ( carpet , furniture , etc ) before deciding on a wall colour , unless sticking to the existing or similar colour .

I have just bought a new house with black window frames, white walls and trim and the builder put black day/night blinds on every window. If you like blinds, they are very effective with total blackout at night and the sheer blind is good on a very sunny day to tame the glare. They look very neat and tidy so if you like the monochrome look, they work. Had I been able to select, I would have gone for a blind and a curtain over each and in a light colour as I prefer less contrast. I've attached a photo of one of the bedrooms so you can see the look

Are you keeping the timber coloured venetians ? You might find it challenging to blend the two different stains , your bed suite being so much lighter and more Scandinavian tones.

Hey,
Definitely spray Venetian blinds white super easy to do as yes I agree they will clash with bedroom suite.But consider "Mojave" from Solver paints for walls,I used it in one of our renovations and I tell you it goes with any colours.Its a Color a bit like donkey,not grey and not latte.
Also great as it's neither masculine or feminine depending on your bedding,lamps etc!

I hadn't given much thought to the venetians to be honest, but what you are saying makes sense. We are thinking about a feature wall, maybe grey/concrete so we could paint the blinds to compliment

You may use a specific light in the grey on the wall were there are two windows. While the other wall with a long slim window has a wall feature design. There are numerous features to use, with the intension that it would be on the same colour contrast. As was mentioned that the blinds would be great sprayed though in a colour that will go with the walls colour and design. Need to be a balance in the colours for both walls and the blinds. You may use one wall with wallpaper feature if you prefer. I have found a site that may assist you with the design of your choice. http://colorhunter.com/;

Yeah for now the carpet will be stay, in the future I would like to replace, maybe with floor boards, but that will be no time soon. I do like the looks of those grey/earthy tones

Grey want go with your floors but in between colour like Warm neutral from Dulux or Self destruct they are earthy muddy looking colours that go with everything.

Definitely spray the blinds white - you could go for a duck egg blue as it would work well with your furniture and crisp white linens. A darker grey could also work well.

Have a look at this - it's very calming and yet very sophisticated. I'd paint the blinds the lighter wall colour. Good luck.
