Never been a fan of matching lighting exactly, but instead suggest coordinating the pendants with your current fixture. You don't have to stick to ball-shaped either and can maybe go with a tubular shape. If you're hubby is stuck on chrome, maybe a chrome tube would work... if you want more glass, we also carry a line of pendant lighting and I'm sure you'll find something to go with it or atleast give you an idea.

I think the light suits the design , and agree that 2 would look better -- the problem you have now though is that , even if you connect the wiring together for both lights ( so the existing wiring is all that is needed ) , is that you will need 2 new holes in the ceiling ( that top fitting covers them ) BUT you will end up with a hole where the existing wire comes through . On a new build , if you fill it , or even cut out a larger square and get a whole new cut-to-size panel in there and plaster and paint , its possible you'll see the different paint colours , and possibly the filler shrinks or gets a little dimple . Its do-able , but its time consuming ( $$$ ) to get it correct now . In other words , it will be at least in the $100's , so how much do you want 2 lights ?

As you can see both, indeed all, options are valid. It really comes down to your own preferences and which of the decision points most resonate with you. We have an L shaped kitchen / dining / living room and have glass pendants over the peninsula and similarly shaped metal pendants over the dining table. I think it’s that similarity that makes it work. The dining lights are hung noticeably lower than the kitchen pendants which our 2800mm height ceilings allow. We are, however, unlikely to move our table. We love it, as do some of many of our guests, but it’s very much a personal choice. A long winded way to say, go with your heart
