Floorboard opinions

Lately, we've felt that our floorboards are looking aged and are throwing lots of orange. (1st pic).
When we had them sanded and sealed 14 years ago, the workman told us that they might not do well with subsequent sandings because of the nails, age and depth of boards etc. Some need replacing due to cracks.
We see our options as:
*Have a light sanding and stained dark (my preference) - as per 2nd pic.
*Lay lighter 'scandi' coloured 'easy lay' vinyl wood look tiles over the top (husband's preference). We have been told it would be impossible to change our floorsboards to this colour.

In the meantime we have bought a beautiful huge moroccan rug to cover a large section of the floor and detract the eye.
Today we purchased a beautiful light oak wooden dining table and charcoal chairs from Matt Blatt (see photo).
Opinions about which option to go with would be appreciated, thanks Houzz peeps.

Hi there, I would go with a light sand and seal without dark stain,aged wooden floors look fantastic, this will work better with your lovely new Scandi dining setting, look forward to seeing what you decide

Thank you so much seriuskey. That would be fantastic if they ended up a nice, light colour. We are a little concerned that the wood may be too yellow a colour.

hey bekkyboo7 things to consider with aluminum doors and windows, they have lower maintenance and better weather seals..... in saying that the color is a big consideration, white is great although i generally use anodised silver, this way it often blends with the backgrounds better depending on your outlooks and views as well as it is very neutral against furnishings and coloured feature walls. anodized is a much nicer finish than powder coating as well as it has no sheen to it and looks "softer" its my design you have in the photo attached to this conversation cheers adrian

Have had high gloss and semi gloss Jarrah floors in previous houses and definitely didn't want them in the extension of current house. Went with satin finish on Jarrah. They did 1st coat with high gloss, as apparently this provides a more durable/harder finish, lightly sanded then final coat in satin finish. Very happy with result, doesn't show every spec of dust, smear or footprint like a high gloss, but fair warning if you have dog(s), unless they are very sedentary, the floors will still scratch over time.

They are much easier to keep clean in my home due to the variations in the finished floor. The grey is not for everybody but if that is your chosen scheme then why not? Most decisions for hard floors today will date but the way of world is geared to replace in maybe on average a 10 year time frame. Ours can be sanded due to solid face but not sure if they can be stained too though I would think so after being sanded back to reseal them.

Yes, it does come down to personal taste, but the overall look of your initial kitchen that has the concrete look tiles is beautiful. It would appeal to a wider audience too I think than the navy blue. If you concrete look tiles looked like those in the picture it would look great (as compared to a more matt look concrete tile which may not look as good). I say no to the herringbone look timber in your whole place downstairs. It will probably cost more to lay and I think it adds complexity that you don't need in a home as beautiful as an old queenslander. If you do decide on timber, I would stick with it being just straight planks. (Herringbone is flavour of the month now and I love it for tiles, but it makes a very big statement that not appeal to everyone if you are putting it in a much bigger area like kitchen etc). Another option is to paint the floor boards, Feast Watson has a floor paint and there are many Dulux colours to choose from. I would think, depending what is on the floorboards, that hopefully a light sand and three coats of paint. 7 days curing time.

Cloudpants, I've been told that it's not the timber that goes yellow it's whatever it's been coated with that colours?
