You will just overcapitalise if u do the slate is back in vogue ATM , so if it's not obstructing entrance, leave The kitchen is good, leave as is and add ur own touches bathrooms- they Will Need updating, however, we really Need to see floor plan to look at How ur 'shower cupboard' can be utilised! does the bathroom have a separate bath and shower?and what are the rooms either side of this space? as ur family grows u Will realise How Space and Storage is a major necessity! Could this space be used to open up bathroom and have a large double shower? Or a walk in linen? Linen cupboard not far from bath is Always handy or walk in robe to an adjacent room? now people are recommending upgrading the driveway? but as a whole, the landscaping is the Main point! this doesn't mean u have to rip the whole thing out and start again, though There's a lot of products out there these days that can be used to recoat bricks, cement.. Etc.. So do ur research on costs of upgrading what u have before investing in anything expensive! gardens? Now a good Pest controller will tell u to Never build ur garden bed up against the house. This is due to moisture, which can over time affect the house.. And because of termites. You may be in a lower risk area but they're pretty much always around. So always leave about a metre of cement etc between house and garden, to be safe! Now, most importantly- any home renovator will tell you to actually Live in the house for about a year( to see all seasons) to see how the house functions. Note sun/ shade / light/ heating/cooling etc and it's impact upon the house's current aspect, comfort and presentation. This Will help with colour shades u want to choose and where u will need to add windows for light or awnings, solar panels etc. It will also help with the landscaping, for choosing plants and watering types, levels required to maintain them! hope all that helps somewhat?? best of luck!...See MoreHow to update the front of this house?
Comments (35)I would avoid grey tsunami too and I love the colour of the red bricks which I would focus on highlighting instead. I would take out the dull dark green bushes in front of the wall and plant a 'Starburst' Honey Locust which has brighter, lacey, yellow-green leaves. This variety is very user friendly as it grows quickly, leaves decompose quickly and it is very 'dry' tolerant once established. Or have a look at the houzz article 'Dutch Houzz: A Run-Down Nursery Estate is back in full bloom (photo 2) [https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/dutch-houzz-a-run-down-nursery-estate-is-back-in-full-bloom-stsetivw-vs~60914085?utm_source=Houzz[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/dutch-houzz-a-run-down-nursery-estate-is-back-in-full-bloom-stsetivw-vs~60914085?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u2489&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery10) for how to complement red brick with colour. Your brickwork looks like an orange-based red rather than a blue-based one while the garage door and guttering looks blue-based which is why the clash from the street perhaps. I would paint those and the wood fence instead of the brick....See MoreUpdating a tired 90s brick house
Comments (13)Hi Lisa - well, we started!! Haha. We ended up painting all the ballustrades white, the poles a shade of beige/grey and then Domino on some feature walls/sections. However we had to pause as we went back at work during Covid (my husband and I run two business plus have two kids so we just ran out of any time to continue). And after some time, we've decided to change it all and go Monument 😆 We're going to get the roof painted in Monument and then keep the rest dark too - i'll be replanting the front near the stairs to the door so we're hoping the new greenery pops out. More work, but after seeing how it's turned out, we agree we think it will all look really nice it it goes the one colour, maybe a pop colour front door to balance it out :)...See MoreHELP! Comments (5)I'm thinking on similar lines to oklouise , with a couple of differences . The front fence looks to be similar brick , but not identical , but the reason you notice that is because the house is almost all white trim , and the fence has a black cap . So I'd do that cap in white , and thats got that a bit more in tune . The iron railings , the white windows , the awnings , the squared hedge are all old-fashioned , but thats what you have . I'd change the awnings , paint the door white , get rid of the canvas carport . But rather than doing the garage in charcoal , I'd try and get a similar orangey red to the brick ( get several test pots ) . Its not going to be perfect , but neither is black or charcoal . To a certain degree , replacing the garage cladding with cedar stained natural wood in theory is even better , but I'm worried it may look too cliched . The gardens are okay , of course theres heaps you could do but theres nothing jarring there , but the final thing I'd mention is the right side fence . I'm not a fan of white fences , but with the reddish brick , the brown roof and all the white trim , I wouldn't try and bring in charcoal ( monument ) or similar , I would keep away from almost every other colour , so by a process of deduction , it would be white . Not even cream or beige or surfmist or grey . White haha ....See More- 8 years agolast modified: 8 years ago
