I am planning on building a deck at the rear of my house. The house is built on a slab .I have always been told to keep the slab clear to reduce the risk of termites. How do I butt the deck up to the house
Hi Moscato65, you just have to have the ability to inspect the slab edge - and the underside of the deck etc for terminate activity - once the deck is constructed. This can normally be done with a crawl-space underneath the deck otherwise you have to remove a few decking boards to check! See this VBA guide note; http://www.vba.vic.gov.au/consumers/termites
Hi, depending on which state you are in will depend on how you go about it. In QLD we generally leave a 3cm gap between timber and house slab so that you don't void any termite treatment warranties.
