Need help with living room design

Hi. I desperately need help with the design and color scheme for my living room.
We have bought a new navy blue sofa. The floor is white tiles. ( 2 x 2 feet ) .The wall painted Lily White.
I need to fit the following against a wall thats about 10 feet :
- Need advise on how to fit in a tv cabinet - also to hold some of my collectibles from travels.
- And to cover a DB box that is at the same wall.
I am rather color and design "blind". Have poured over tons of magazines and pictures. But still cant get it.
I plan to replace the current TV cabinet in tis picture.

5 years agoPurchase a low line tv entertainment unit. Your collectables can be displayed next to television. Place a print/painting over electrical box. Print should have a accent colour that is similar to your blue lounge. I think a larger rug that covers from the TVs unit to lounge, would be better. Tiles seem cold, a bigger floor rug will add warmth. You could purchase a small display cabinet, and put near stairs for your collectables.

Comments (23)Nice ideas bellesum. Here is the same thing with l-shaped kitchen. Bathroom ends up being a few inches wider to get the w/d to fit...you'll need to look at this in more detail because the w/d often requires extra space behind for connections. As drawn it's exactly 760mm square. If you do need more space for connections you'd have to fiddle with the design of the cabinet. Perhaps the refrigerator, pantry and laundry centre are one large (and fairly complicated) cabinet. That would save you a few mm of wall space. Comments (9)Sorry to be a downer, Suzanne, but the minute I saw your table I immediately thought bulk so I have to agree with Leelee, that it will visually fill an area, especially where space is tight. That said, I do love the table. The other thing I am looking at is the table with your sofa - the sofa is much more formal and delicate and suggests a period design, while the table is ultra modern, heavy and casual. I'm wondering what chairs you would put with the table to balance these differences out and that won't be swamped by the table. Love the example Dy has posted for you, he always has great ideas. There was a lady once on Houzz who had an extremely tiny home we helped her decorate and she went with predominant whites with shades of blue and natural elements and the result was restful and really beautiful. Her tiny rooms were beautifully decorated without making the rooms looked swamped. These make great backdrop colours and you can see from the two vases of flowers just how easy it is to add some additional colour. Comments (14)I find it difficult to view your floor plan as it blurs if I enlarge it, so excuse me if this comment is invalid. Assuming the entry is from your living room and the home runs lengthways with the hall linking the bathroom, ldry and bedroom from the kitchen. The issue with this is that having two doors in the kitchen means you cannot form a working triangle for it to function well and don't have enough wall to fit out with tall storage. However, if you sealed up the door to the hall and opened access to the hall from the lounge as your plans seems to indicate in the top right of the lounge area, then you could widen the front opening into the kitchen rather than remove an entire wall, so integrate it into your living zone without lumping a kitchen in the middle of your lounge, you will improve your walk through flow, and gain a new length of wall in the kitchen where your fridge could go into the corner with a larger pantry flanking it, then your proposed layout t follow....See MoreNeed design help with our living room
Comments (16)Dark wall looks great, as does the square set ceiling. Great starting point. Whatever lounge you get, make sure it's leather! So much easier to look after when you have children of any age group! My 20 year old drops more crap than the 15 year old does.... Go for a modern classic design so it suits the existing room and won't fall out of fashion (fad). A quality piece should last for decades and always look great. 5 years agoReally is personal preference for rug colour. Your lounge is a wonderful colour. With the light walls and light curtains you could go with something like these pictures. Keep with a lighter coloured wood.

I think a modular tv unit with shelves and storage for your collection would be great, a coffee table , a gorgeous rug, matching cushions

5 years agoAdd a beautiful throw, floor lamp, you could change tv to other wall as siriuskey suggested which could look great and open up the space

Thank you for the extra photos, I think softening the colours in your room with rug and cushions could look great, a gorgeous artwork in your dining area, as it looks pretty busy there painting your setting may be a bit troublesome (chipping) staining would be much better, jap black to match door frames could look great, you have some great cupboards in study for your collection, a gorgeous piece on a coffee table ( like first post) could look fab, great kitchen

As your front door opens onto your room, instead of existing curtain you could add a stylish screen divider anchoring it to the wall that the tv is on, this will give definition to entry and entry into room, could look great

5 years agoHi Rengwir, I have a attached a photo which will visually give you the set up of lounge. If you can imagine a a lesser scale for your home. I agree with the white shutters on windows. And maybe a hall stand against the lounge that has its back to the front door. This would then create an entry. I think that the rug you have chosen would blend in perfectly with lounges. I will keep looking for other pictures.

5 years agoHi, I have looked at your photos, and with the dark door frames, thought you might like to embrace that colouring? I have attached photo which has colours that are already in your room, that would be difficult to change, ie: door frames. with adding light cushions, rug and artwork, would keep room light. With white shutters on front windows and Painting your dining setting black, as previously suggested. This is completely different to the other colour palette I have previously posted. But, thought I would share my thoughts.
