Moving the door to the yellow position just moves the dead space from the outside the bedroom to the inside. I prefer the door as drawn as it gives the bedroom more separation and privacy from the room at the top of the stairs. In addition, the little window will probably be the only natural light to the stairwell, and possibly the room at the top of the stairs.

Your options are limited by the position of the AC duct. If that could be moved I would combine both walk-in-robes to a large walk-through robe to the ensuite, and have a straight run entry hall to the master bedroom running parallel with the external wall. The door to the bedroom would be on the current large WIR wall adjacent to the little window. Dog-leg hallways like your current bedroom entry have are just bad design and should be avoided at all costs.

Agree completely with dr Retro. The aircon duct is the problem. But, I also understand that the air con duct is positioned for rooms on the lower floor. If the duct could be moved, that would help rearrange the WIR area.
Have you also thought, with the current set up of your bedroom entrance. How are you going get furniture easily into the room?

Theres around 4-5 square metres of wasted space in that passageway.

Plus extra door openings, materials, labour, etc. that could have all gone to a higher quality robe fit out for example or as a cost saving.

If air con stays could try this. Assuming combining his and hers wir is ok..
In your original design bathroom needs a door to contain steam and privacy when getting out of shower. Plus a skylight or window. Toilet door I’d do a slider. Dogleg makes furniture movement hard.

with the existing location of the toilet window and AC ducts changing this arrangement to a single wiw can dramatically reduce the amount of storage wall and moving the set back bedroom door to the yellow location reduces light into the stairway but check with the builder/designer to ask if the windows or AC ducts can be relocated as the existing location of the shower means that you will be walking through a wet floor between wiw and toilet and we need dimensions of the wiw and ens to make accurate alternate suggestions ..

wow Kate I just did a rough sketch and about to post it only to see that we both have a similar idea, without dimensions it's very rough.

So Tony, What about the plan above with db vanity backing entry to room and stairs, The exterior wall with separate loo and shower both with windows. This puts entry to ensuite more privately facing bedroom. Arrange the robes along both external wall and add a bench with drawers down centre of area. More open, lighter, airier but still with privacy and avoids the pokey robes with dead corners. See what you think! Cheers Margot

I just wanted to follow on my rough sketch suggestion with dimensions, Power has been off all day and hasn't stopped raining so needed something to do other then cleaning out cupboards.

The first is what my sketch suggested and the other two just possible ideas, all give you heaps of wardrobe, WIR and storage space cheers

Hi Tony, I'll try again here 'cause I think we can still do better: Like plan above but db vanity where shower is (may need to be a bit longer) loo and shower on external wall both with windows. then 2 runs of full height robes: one allowing enough space for door where your yellow line is. the other on external wall along from loo and shower. down centre a run of drawers: maybe wide enough for drawers both sides but bench height for a put down area, open and like a mansions robe room!! With bathroom not extremely long the robes can be what ever length you need but I am sure you will win a bit more space in you lux bedroom! So you step into the room with robe, drawers and robe, bed beyond and round to the right is the bathroom tucked away! I think that would be lovely, spacious and luxurious. Hope it works. Margot
