I had my house rendered last year. To decide on colour, I first drove around looking at rendered houses, to get a feel for the colours & tones I preferred. Then I used the "Paint Your House" program on the Dulux website. You can either look at their various "stock" houses, or upload a photo of your OWN house. Then, using their colour selector & painting program, you virtually "paint" your house, so you can see what it will look like when done. Once I'd narrowed it down to a couple of colours, I got sample pots in full-tint, half-tint, and quarter-tint. Painted sheets of papers with them, and stuck to outside house, so I could see what the wall colour would look like during various times of day / sun vs shade /etc. It was a bit stressful worrying how it would look when finished (since I went a deep ocher gold), but I'm thrilled with the result.

Hi all, it's now 2020! I'm at render stage and would love it to be white but the renderer I spoke with this morning said to think long and hard about 'white! as it gets dirty very easily especially taking into account the recent dust-storm, not to mention the ash and smoke from the ongoing bushfires. I would like to know: how your respective white renders are coming along in regards to appearance, staining and maintenance; and what type of render and render finish do you have? I am looking at a sandy Rokcote acrylic render. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you so much everyone for your great ideas, advice and uploads. I've decided on glass for pool fencing, Dune for render colour, but still undecided about front balustrade and handrails. While I love the idea of stainless steel, I'm still not confident that a modern look will suit the front facade. I keep coming back to the classic look in Lesley's pic but wonder whether white powder coating is the way to go or whether it would be too busy for my facade as I have stairs/handrails to consider. Still pondering over too many choices!

Hi T, Colour selection can be a hard thing to get right. For the outside of your home I wouldn't suggest a bright white as it will be positively blinding in the sunlight. So always go a little bit darker then you would inside the home. If you want white on white then go for it. although it will look a little flat so perhaps the colour consultant was trying to give the exterior of your home some depth. Do you not like the look of the timber windows and doors? My suggestion is to either go a little darker or lighter on the windows and doors to give the facade a little more interest. But ultimately its your choice. Let me know if I can help, MKG
