Truly in a kids room (I have two) just paint the existing doors to match the walls and add snazzy handles to suit the child’s interests. Or if she’s anything like my daughter make one a pinboard and the other chalk.

If that's the same as the rest of the doors in house, that suits the period keep them and paint the walls and add new window treatment, My house has those doors and I would never change them, there;s no painted surface to chip

I had doors like this and changed them to bifolds, still matched the rest of the house, but took up less space.

Unfortunately many of these doors throughout the house aren't in good enough condition to keep, the veneer is chipped, badly scratched etc. You can see all along the bottom in the first pic if you click on it, what looks like a line along the bottom of the door is actually the damage. Your daughter is very smart to keep hinged doors. Sliding doors would be totally wrong. They would not allow to access the full space.

@dreamer I grew up with siding wardrobe doors in various houses and I dislike them thoroughly with a passion.

If they are the doors like mine you could check out second hand shops to find them, we have a great Tip that recycles and sells doors like this. and will save you a lot of money

Yep, all new internals have been ordered today, it'll have shelves floor to top shelf, and then next to that a set of drawers with two shelves at the top, then the single shelf that goes all the way across, around the same height as the one that is in the picture. Hanging on the left.

I'm not that sold on the original doors to want to try and keep any, or source replacements but thanks for the input, it's always good to consider many options.

We'll keep plodding away and I'll be sure to post pics of the finished product. :)

Hi, not sure how old your daughter is of if she's a girly girl, have you thought about some lush pretty curtains? they could hang over the space when not needed, use curtain tye backs with hooks either side to open up when needed. can easily change the curtains as their tastes change.

Hi Kym, she's 12, not really a girly girl as such. We've gone for a Hume Hamptons door, it's basically like a shaker style really. We got some really pretty sheers from Freedom for the windows, and ordered roller blinds.

Thanks Kate and Bigreader, we're pleased with the result. The new built in desk is in now and she's back in there. Still just waiting on her new bed which will be in timber to match her desk. Then when it's semi-tidy...not often...I can take a finished shot. :)

Thanks Julie, she was very particular about the colours and things she wanted, like using the green tones, having the cork board which she painted in the geometric pattern herself. I wanted her to hang something else on the wall above the bed but she is refusing, lol. She made the plant bowl things herself, pretty much all the decorating you see is all her choices. The only thing is the antique bed which we got her when she was 2, otherwise it's all her. :)

That is wonderful, adding her own personality to her room enhances your beautiful work, and her creativity in her beautiful pieces really looks gorgeous, just beautiful.
