Comments (2)Weatherboard first floor additions to a red-brick ground floor always look like additions. As long as you are happy to accept that it will look like an addition you will be fine. Rendering the red brick to match the same colour as the weatherboard won't improve things as the smooth render texture will contrast with the strong horizontal linear nature of the weatherboard. It will look like you are trying to camouflage the addition (but failing). It needs bold, unapologetic design to make it look good, and not be half hidden away like a box lowered into your roof. Comments (20)I would go with Monument. The house is dark brown so adding some relatively small surfmist elements wouldn’t change the perception of the house. At the photo above the surfmist works well as the roof is visible from the ground and it’s surfmist as well. The brown brick has those dark spots which go well with Monument. The house will look dark but elegant. In order to make the house more cheerful I would invest into adding as much greenery as possible. You might even think about adding couple relatively large pots along your side wall and/ or at the front right. You can also paint the front door any cheerful colour you like....See Morepainting or rendering a brick house?
Comments (3)I'll let the experts answer , but my preference is to keep brick as brick , and tidy it or modernise it or distract the eyes or whatever you want to achieve , by concentrating on the details -- it can be the gardens and fences , painting the gutters a different colour , changing the front door ( or painting it a different colour ) , adding battens over a window , changing a plasterboard panel for real wood slats ( then staining ) , even things like the front fence . If the brick is shocking , then sell haha ....See MoreIdeas for 1960s brick house
