Floorplan help!
We are doing a renovation on our old Queenslander and have just been told by council that the WIR we had planned now needs to be reinstated back to a porch. Our problem is where do we fit a WIR for our main bedroom? Please help us :)

Floorplan help - how to make house feel more spacious
Comments (15)House has many good features, I love how the bedrooms are divided from the living area, that can be very important if you have young children. I even like how the door to the laundry is screened from the dining area - little things like that are important to me. The toilet in the bathroom would annoy me, but having the second toilet in the laundry would offset that. I think I would be inclined to close off the lounge room as a TV/Media room that would free up the general living area for just living. The outdoor areas look well planned with excellent access from the house. Oklouise's idea of relocating the kitchen looks an excellent idea but plumbing could be an issue here, firstly it would be expensive just to move the plumbing and something to be generally avoided with renovations, and secondly with rooms underneath the house, it may not be possible. As the kitchen is now, opening it more to the living room could be a good idea except I can see possible safety issues with the hotplates being exposed to passing traffic - especially with young children in the house. I agree with David - you do have to think about how you are going to live in the house and the lifestyle you envisage. For this reason, if you do decide to purchase, I would strongly suggest you live in the house for a year before doing a thing. That way the things that aren't working for you will become very obvious as well as things you need or would make life easier making decision making simpler. You will also get a feel for the lighting in the house, where it can be improved and the aspect of the house - what rooms may need warming (south facing rooms) or what rooms need cooling (west facing rooms)....See MoreFloorplan help - possible new purchase
Comments (7)such big changes are only cost effective if the location is ideal and purchase price within reason within reason but, unable to read the dimensions properly, so my ideas are based on approximate dimension but i suggest that the brick walls in the kitchen are likely to enclose load bearing structures (and removing these walls would lose useful wall space for a new kitchen) but, it may be possible to widen the opening between existing kitchen and dining, enlarge kitchen, add breakfast bench and space for double fridges (where is the existing fridge??) keep original pantry and hopefully remove the small brick screen wall ....i would also add a handbasin to the toilet and imo the downstairs full bathroom is ideal for small kids ...upstairs maybe reorganise wiw and ens to have access for the kids, add biw to master bedroom with long term plans to add an extra bathroom and reclaim private wiw...See MoreFloor Plan Change - Need flow of floor plan help
Comments (9)assuming all the necessary approvals and accurate dimensions my suggestions have minimal wall removal and plumbing changes for 3 living areas, 6 bedrooms, 4-5 bathooms, WIP and, multi family bathroom sharing with or without the extra downstairs guest bathroom...the new laundry includes a chute from upstairs plus hallway for pool change room and access to bathroom and backyard....there's space for extra-large dining tables plus kitchen meals area and servery for the barbq alfresco but, some windows need moving and consider external windows shutters for sunscreening, upgrading all insulation and a pergola covered area to shade and extend backyard seating area overlooking the pool?...See MoreFloor plan help!
Comments (5)Hello Aimee, I came here to say something like this plan above too. Two straight lines of cabinets with fridge on the outer end of the hall run, is best with no dead corners. Altho the top bit could work very well as an appliance cupboard with by fold doors to the bench so the things spill out along the bench when in use and shuffle back into cupboard when finished! I would suggest (if it fits) to have on right wall, from bottom: fridge, wall oven, pantry cupboard. cook top across the top with sink on the left bench towards the top so the bench opens to the sitting breaky bar to the dining area. the other thing is when you remove the walls between living/dining/kitchen the whole area will be far easier to furnish. The silly L shape rooms are hard to get right without making the sitting area a walk through interrupting TV and conversations too. shame north is to the other side of the house: where are you? The living rooms might be cold because of this? Cheers Margot...See More

Here’s the original house plans as well as the downstairs renovation plan . As for council it’s being dealt with by a builder we have got helping us so I’m not fully understanding their issue, but basically the sunroom must not have been approved at the time it was enclosed, so now council are pushing back and saying it’s not in keeping with the heritage of the house. So they want us to revert it back to a verandah. We also originally planned to have our new carport to the left of the property but that has to change now as well due to a storm water drain so I believe downstairs might need reconfiguring with the entrance way for the carport to fit on the right hand side now. So open to ideas on how best to arrange that too :)

This is the only one I have with the carport still on the left. We also aren’t opposed to having a pitched carport roof we just couldn’t make it flow well with the undercover walkway to the front door
