Hi, I had gorgeous black fans in my last house. Had the bifolds and all open living. Only get black if you plan on cleaning them well very frequently, as dust and dirt really shows. Switched to white in my new place and yes they still get dirty but the dust seems to not show as much. I also had a a black fan in the kitchen with a black fridge and it looked superb. I had exposed laminate beams in the cathedral ceilings and brush box floors. A few little black pieces here and there made them really pop :)

I have had deep, burgundy walls in my bedroom for years and haven't found any difference in the mozzie congregation between that and the white walled rooms. In the worst mozzie months, before going to sleep, I switch on 1 ceiling light only ,' in another room ', wait about 15min, ceiling around that light entices them from everywhere in the house , and then I spray in 1 clean swoop, leave the room and go to bed without breathing in the spray in the air.

My bedroom is part of a large basement area and I used that same blue to do the walls in dado style (half-half). The bottom half of the walls is the lovely strong blue and the top is a soft warm almost-white. The ceiling is white. It looks fantastic and two years on I still love it. I find the colour combination to be very restful despite the fact that it is quite intense. I accessorised in silver, including a silver bed spread and added small pops of turquoise. It's a fantastic colour, go for it!!

always hard to change your late parents' home and the current colour scheme sound more 50s than 20's but 1920 colours included a soft warm grey so why not try that below the picture rail and lighter version of the same above the picture rail and grey should look good with the gold carpet and fresh white ceilings and trim and be acceptable to most prospective buyers...paint specialty stores and paint websites usually have a visuallzer that can use your home photo to test the look of different colours
