I am going to be the odd man out...I greatly admire dark painted vanities: charcoal, navy, dark grey, even a mid grey, but I certainly understand restored timber would also be beautiful. If you were to do this, I would also paint the mirror frame in same colour. I am not sure you will achieve a particularly good result by painting the decorative tiles. For one thing it would be almost impossible to match the colour to existing tiles perfectly. I did this recently in an old kitchen (using linen colour chalk paint) and the outline of decoration still shows, and I painted the entire backsplash. In saying that, it was a good temporary fix for our purposes. The painter who painted the interior of this same older house recommended I paint the rather ugly old kitchen floor tiles, and he named a paint but I can't recall it just now. I like your idea about painting your floor light grey. I viewed the drivenbydecor link provided above in another post and was impressed with the results. It's worth a shot. Would also contrast beautifully with a dark painted vanity, hint hint.

There's some great ideas there . The first thing that stands out is that pipe handrail downstairs -- I hate them with a vengence . Remove it , extend the step to fill the space , with 1 or maybe 2 small full-width steps . Just me , I'd do in charcol or black non-glossy 400 x 400 tiles . Most of the windows are black framed , and look okay in my opinion . Paint the upstairs balistrade in black or charcoal -- will tie it in and even though the style is dated , I don't think it would matter -- it would then look like part of the overall concept . I like the English White of the front door , but here's where I'd get colourful -- do the door jamb and the diamonds in the brightest citrus orange you can , and then carry it to the garage door ! The garage door surround ( including the 3 window surrounds above it ) I would paint in charcoal or black . And here's probably the most controversial part -- leave the awnings , but also paint them in Citrus Orange , with the ridges on them in a beige , maybe veering towards an apricot ! This will really lift everything visually IMO , the orange brick will tie in and bland in without looking overdone , the Bright Orange and mainly charcoal or black is modern but not too modern , with the English White door breaking everything while still having Bright Ornage to tie it all in . There looks to be a Butterscotch Orange gate to the left of the house -- obviously , you would repaint that in the brighter orange too , to look cohesive , but you already see how it looks more exciting than the Burgundy Red existing colours . Which leaves 1 thing I don't like the colour of -- the top fascia board or gutter . I suspect Vitamin C Orange would be too much , so probably play it safe , and go either charcoal , or a lighter greeny/grey to match the roof tiles . Probably not what everyone would do -- but that's what I would do with that pallette !

I think the task of transforming homes like these is an exciting challenge! If your budget is not huge then timber trimmings and paint can make a huge difference here. You could paint the brick, or better still clad it with weatherboard to soften the house, but if the budget does not allow the whole house to be clad just do the front and go around the corners by about a meter and then paint the bricks at the sides and back to match. You definitely need a verandah across the front, with the steps centred and going straight down to meet the gate - this will transform the facade and is worth spending the money on. If you dont want to change the windows consider framing them with timber to make them look larger and replace the front door with something nicer, luckily your door is centred with same size windows either side. Id suggest replacing the fence with a picket fence and matching gates to hide the concrete driveway and then screen off the long side driveway and camouflage the overhang with a picket gate to match. Paint choices here are really important, it looks like your neighbours homes are beige or grey? Consider painting the house a classic colour such as dusky blue or sage combined with light trimmings to make yours stand out from the surrounding neutral homes (ive done a couple of quick mock-ups below as examples) You need some plants but your front yard is not large so a single, low height feature tree with mulch or pebbles instead of lawn would look wonderful plus a couple of strategically placed pots. Yours is the style of home that can truly be transformed with the right colour. Your house is already a light colour and it doesnt do justice so Id suggest going for a deep colour on the walls top and bottom and making a bold statement - unfortunately this would require repainting the roof as well but I think this would be well worth doing as pale green is going to be very restrictive to the colour you paint the outside. With every second house at the moment seeming to be painted grey Id suggest a different bold colour in blue tone - such as a navy blue, dusty blue or teal-blue with off white/cream for the trims, window frames, garage door and staircase. This colour combination looks stunning with a light silver colour roof (which is available in dulux roof paint) You have a couple of awnings already so Id add another one on the other side over the LH window and front door as they are very close together - this will help balance out the front of the house and add further interest and character. Paint your front door a contrasting colour as well to add further street appeal. Adding some plants up high in the form of window boxes under the front windows, and one under the side window with the awning, planted out with trailing plants (especially silver toned such as variegated ivy, white flowering geraniums, and silver dichondra) would look amazing!
