Nestled within Sydney’s historic Millers Point, this 1860s Victorian terrace has been reimagined as a serene family sanctuary—where patina-rich surfaces meet contemporary elegance. The curated interiors tell a story of history-infused maximalism, where every layer reveals a detail in service of heritage, emotion, and craft. Lorena Gaxiola’s poetic vision was to celebrate the family’s tri-cultural identity through salvaged timbers, artisanal finishes, and restrained yet expressive craftsmanship. From reinstated cornices to hand-finished brass accents and kauri floorboards, each intervention evokes a dialogue between past and present. Realising that vision required deft navigation of significant constraints: extensive structural damage from decades of water ingress and termites, heritage restrictions that demanded visual continuity, and tight access that challenged the logistics of modern construction. As designers, we oversaw every detail—from heritage review and documentation to construction coordination and bespoke installations. Threading new electrical, climate, and plumbing systems through fragile timber bones took surgical precision. Yet the results were seamless: original chandeliers revived, floorboards restored or matched with reclaimed timber, and American oak joinery paired with brass trims and marble mosaics brought new life to tired volumes. Design decisions were driven by sustainability, narrative, and craftsmanship. Custom pieces were commissioned from masters in their field—such as Lowe Furniture’s bespoke creations and a custom mural by Indigenous artist Danie Mellor, which pays homage to the family’s cultural roots. Each space was approached with emotion and intentionality, particularly the bathrooms which the client described simply and joyfully as: “The bathrooms make me happy.” Every room in the home unfolds like a story—patterned tiles, textured stone, and layered materials come together to offer intimate moments of discovery. Our commitment extended from spatial planning to final flourishes. We handled styling, soft furnishing installation, custom window treatments, and every curated object. Furniture was sourced locally, materials were salvaged when possible, and thoughtful detailing elevated every corner. The result is a timeless, emotionally resonant home—one that celebrates craftsmanship, elevates functionality, and preserves a precious piece of Sydney’s architectural legacy for generations to come.

This deliberate stripping to a shabby chic look provided visual interest in this fully refurb property. The lights colours on the wall and the white painted floorboards accentuated the old pine's distressed look. A balanced blend of modern and old, which added immense value to this house in need of modernisation. The modern doors were exchanged for reclaimed pine doors, which embellished a long and brightened hall. The storage galore was made just as attractive as practical.

This project was all about taking a tired, cluttered bathroom and turning it into a calm, design-led sanctuary. The original space was heavy on storage but lacked character, with dated cabinetry, fussy curtains, and no real sense of style or flow. The new design strips everything back to a clean, modern canvas. We introduced soft neutral tiles in a handmade finish for texture, paired with a striking herringbone marble floor to elevate the look. A bespoke vanity with fluted detailing creates subtle movement, while the arched mirror framed by elegant wall lights adds depth and sophistication. Brass fixtures were chosen throughout to bring warmth and a touch of luxury, from the concealed flush plate to the wall-mounted taps. The layered lighting (including the ceiling pendant) ensures this bathroom feels inviting both day and night. To keep the design practical for everyday family life, we added bespoke built-in storage in the nook behind the door — the perfect hidden spot for all the family bathroom essentials (because beautiful doesn’t mean you can’t also be organised!). The result? A contemporary, timeless bathroom that feels effortlessly stylish yet practical — the kind of space you’d actually look forward to starting your day in.

A breathtakingly beautiful Shaker kitchen using concept continuous frames. On one wall, a long run of Concretto Scuro is used for the worktop, splashback and integrated sink with a built-in flush hob keeping the run seamless. The bespoke full height cabinetry houses a deceivingly large pantry with open shelving and wire baskets. Either side camouflages the fridge freezer and a storage cupboard for brushes, mops and plenty of doggy treats.

Bright, open and airy Knocking through a few rooms to create a large open-plan area, the owners of this sleek kitchen wanted to create a free, fluid space that made the kitchen the unequivocal hub of the home whilst at the same time stylistically linking to the rest of the property. We were tasked with creating a large open-plan kitchen and dining area that also leads through to a cosy snug, ideal for relaxing after a hard afternoon over the Aga!! The owners gave us creative control in the space, so with a loose rein and a clear head we fashioned a faultless kitchen complete with a large central island, a sunken sink and Quooker tap. For optimum storage (and a dash of style) we built a number of large larders, one of which cleverly conceals a television, as well as a false chimney surround to frame the Aga and a bespoke drinks unit. All the units are hand-crafted from Quebec Yellow Timber and hand-painted in Zoffany ‘Smoke’ and ‘Elephant Gray’ Walnut worktops, with Silestone ‘Lagoon’ Worktops around the outside and American Black Walnut on the island. The heart of the home is the reception room where deep blues from the Tyrrhenian Seas beautifully coalesce with soft whites and soupçons of antique gold under a bespoke chandelier of 1,800 hand-hung crystal droplets.
