Lorena GaxiolaNestled within Sydney’s historic Millers Point, this 1860s Victorian terrace has been reimagined as a serene family sanctuary—where patina-rich surfaces meet contemporary elegance. The curated interiors tell a story of history-infused maximalism, where every layer reveals a detail in service of heritage, emotion, and craft. Lorena Gaxiola’s poetic vision was to celebrate the family’s tri-cultural identity through salvaged timbers, artisanal finishes, and restrained yet expressive craftsmanship. From reinstated cornices to hand-finished brass accents and kauri floorboards, each intervention evokes a dialogue between past and present.
Realising that vision required deft navigation of significant constraints: extensive structural damage from decades of water ingress and termites, heritage restrictions that demanded visual continuity, and tight access that challenged the logistics of modern construction. As designers, we oversaw every detail—from heritage review and documentation to construction coordination and bespoke installations. Threading new electrical, climate, and plumbing systems through fragile timber bones took surgical precision. Yet the results were seamless: original chandeliers revived, floorboards restored or matched with reclaimed timber, and American oak joinery paired with brass trims and marble mosaics brought new life to tired volumes.
Design decisions were driven by sustainability, narrative, and craftsmanship. Custom pieces were commissioned from masters in their field—such as Lowe Furniture’s bespoke creations and a custom mural by Indigenous artist Danie Mellor, which pays homage to the family’s cultural roots. Each space was approached with emotion and intentionality, particularly the bathrooms which the client described simply and joyfully as: “The bathrooms make me happy.” Every room in the home unfolds like a story—patterned tiles, textured stone, and layered materials come together to offer intimate moments of discovery.
Our commitment extended from spatial planning to final flourishes. We handled styling, soft furnishing installation, custom window treatments, and every curated object. Furniture was sourced locally, materials were salvaged when possible, and thoughtful detailing elevated every corner. The result is a timeless, emotionally resonant home—one that celebrates craftsmanship, elevates functionality, and preserves a precious piece of Sydney’s architectural legacy for generations to come.

Woodstock FurnitureTwo reception room walls were knocked down to create an open-plan kitchen dining space for our client, an interior designer, and her family. This truly bespoke kitchen, designed by Woodstock Furniture, features striking, stepped doors in a spray-painted French grey finish and charcoal grey spray-painted finish on the long, narrow island unit.
The client wanted to create more open space with an extension to house the utility room so the kitchen could be reserved for cooking, living and entertaining. Once building work was complete, Andrew Hall, chief designer and managing director of Woodstock Furniture, was enlisted to realise the client's vision - a minimalist, industrial-style, yet welcoming, open-plan kitchen with classic contemporary styling. The client had not had a bespoke kitchen so was looking forward to experiencing a quality feel and finish with all the cabinetry closing and aligning properly with plenty of storage factored in to the design.
A painted, pale grey colour scheme was chosen for the kitchen with a charcoal-grey island unit for a dramatic focal point. Stepped doors were designed to create a unique look to the bespoke cabinetry and a Victorian lamp post base was sourced from an architectural salvage yard to support the breakfast bar with an original, contrasting feature to the black island cabinets.
The island unit fits in perfectly with the room's proportions and was designed to be long and narrow to house the sink, integrated dishwasher, recycling needs, crockery and provide the perfect place for guests to gather when entertaining. The worktops on either side of the range cooker are used for food prep with a small sink for rinsing and draining, which doubles up as an ice sink for chilling wine at parties. This open-plan scheme includes a dining area, which leads off from the kitchen with space for seating ten people comfortably. Dark lights were installed to echo the sleek charcoal grey on the island unit and one of the pendant lights is directly above the tap to highlight the chrome finish with five lighting circuits in the kitchen and adjacent dining room.

Bright, open and airy
Knocking through a few rooms to create a large open-plan area, the owners of this sleek kitchen wanted to create a free, fluid space that made the kitchen the unequivocal hub of the home whilst at the same time stylistically linking to the rest of the property.
We were tasked with creating a large open-plan kitchen and dining area that also leads through to a cosy snug, ideal for relaxing after a hard afternoon over the Aga!! The owners gave us creative control in the space, so with a loose rein and a clear head we fashioned a faultless kitchen complete with a large central island, a sunken sink and Quooker tap.
For optimum storage (and a dash of style) we built a number of large larders, one of which cleverly conceals a television, as well as a false chimney surround to frame the Aga and a bespoke drinks unit.
All the units are hand-crafted from Quebec Yellow Timber and hand-painted in Zoffany ‘Smoke’ and ‘Elephant Gray’ Walnut worktops, with Silestone ‘Lagoon’ Worktops around the outside and American Black Walnut on the island.

Let's Talk Kitchens & InteriorsOur client was undertaking a major renovation and extension of their large Edwardian home and wanted to create a Hamptons style kitchen, with a specific emphasis on catering for their large family and the need to be able to provide a large entertaining area for both family gatherings and as a senior executive of a major company the need to entertain guests at home. It was a real delight to have such an expansive space to work with to design this kitchen and walk-in-pantry and clients who trusted us implicitly to bring their vision to life. The design features a face-frame construction with shaker style doors made in solid English Oak and then finished in two-pack satin paint. The open grain of the oak timber, which lifts through the paint, adds a textural and visual element to the doors and panels. The kitchen is topped beautifully with natural 'Super White' granite, 4 slabs of which were required for the massive 5.7m long and 1.3m wide island bench to achieve the best grain match possible throughout the whole length of the island. The integrated Sub Zero fridge and 1500mm wide Wolf stove sit perfectly within the Hamptons style and offer a true chef's experience in the home. A pot filler over the stove offers practicality and convenience and adds to the Hamptons style along with the beautiful fireclay sink and bridge tapware. A clever wet bar was incorporated into the far end of the kitchen leading out to the pool with a built in fridge drawer and a coffee station. The walk-in pantry, which extends almost the entire length behind the kitchen, adds a secondary preparation space and unparalleled storage space for all of the kitchen gadgets, cookware and serving ware a keen home cook and avid entertainer requires.
