Good eye to see that beforehand. Yes, you will run into that problem. That being said, take heart in the fact that the previous owners clearly used a fridge there. Measure the width of the fridge space and try to undershoot to avoid the problem. If it's 36" wide, going with a 30" or 33" (if that's a standard width) will save you the headache. If it's 36 and you want a 36" fridge, one consideration is getting a standard fridge instead of the ones with french doors and flipping the doors so the handle is on the right. A bit awkward, but at least it opens all the way. FInally, just check the manual before buying the fridge. It will tell you the minimum clearance you need next to the fridge to open the door.
