Reply to: Go with the overhang...you will be happy you did :) I have a similar island and I have an 8 inch overhang on the short side. It's more comfortable sitting on the end instead of 3 in a row. My overhang is 8 inches and its fine but I wish I had done 10 inches.

Reply to: We did an end overhang on the short side of our island and are glad we did - however we incorporated legs into the design for support. We chose smaller stools (lower backs) so as to not make it look too busy at the island.

Reply to: Yes to the overhang! We did a small overhang on both ends of our island and use all three sides every day!
