Tall closet door is a good idea. What about a tall double door with the unit built into the corner? Bottom left appears to be drawers; these would be useful for items like pet supplies.

I like the mix of wood and paint. If the paint can be sorted to match our decor this might work well. Again, one end of this unit is what we have space for.

One end of this and have shoes on shelf under bench rather than adjacent to bench. Not sure molding at top works in our place, but it does emphasize the built-in feel..

Most of this is wrong, but bench+shoe shelves+coat hooks+shelves above is the right idea. Maybe have doors enclosing the shelves; narrower; wood finish.
